Just wanted to post this since I was elated when I found it. This is a letter I received back in 1975 ( I think ), after writing to Chicago's mailing address to see if I could buy a sweat shirt with the "Caribou Ranch" logo on it. I thought I had lost it years ago------lo and behold, it showed up in my parents attic! Anyway, might be of interest to any fans of old Chicago and Terry Kath. He's been a hero of mine since I started playing guitar.

My first time was 1972 in Ames, IA.

Chicago V had just came out and "Saturday In The Park" was the NEW single. We were as high up, and as far back as you can get so the binoculars came in handy. It was one of the most memorable things of my life. ( I'm not kidding ). I loved that band and was devastated when I heard what happened to Kath--------and it happened on my birthday! Was not a "happy" one.

Interesting how back then----we didn't need big screens, fire and explosions, or dancing people to make it memorable. Just musicians on a stage, doing their thing-------and we loved it.

That letter is AWESOME! I have a fanclub letter fro "The Chicago Express" somewhere? Chicago was my first heroes and my first concert in 1980. To me, no other band existed for many years. I followed them all through high school and college and they are mostly responsible for my musical abilities today. I have traveled many miles for many years to see them some 40+ times. Unfortunately I never saw Kath play live..but what a monster. Tom should do a tribute to Terrys telecaster? :D
Dawayne Bailey (sometimes on this forum) was VERY cool when we met a few times and actually turned me on to Anderson guitars. But most of the band (except Lamm) was awesome to me when I met them back in the 90s.
I took it hard when they fired Danny Seraphine and migrated over to Toto.
They really belong in the hall of fame..shame really.

Sounds like you were into these guys in the 80's as much as I was in the 70's. I had walls covered with posters and pictures and articles. It was borderline---hero worship. I still follow them as much as I can.

Would like to hear more about your experience meeting them. What was the problem with Lamm? Was Cetera still with them? Also wondered what you mean by "migrated over to Toto".

As far as the HOF-----it's hard for me to take that whole thing very seriously.

How cool to have that letter! I'd frame it, and hang it somewhere so you can see it regularly.

Terry Kath was nothing shy of amazing. If he'd have lived, he would have just turned 68 years old.

Here's one of my favorite video concerts. It's a show Chicago did at Tanglewood in 1970. Watching this show gives me goose bumps, hair raising, and tears all at once. The entire band was so talented, and played with each other so well. Kath is one of my all time favorites. You can really see him shine in this show. Every time I see this version of "25 or 6 to 4" I can't help but think that it just doesn't get much better......

It well worth your time to watch this entire show. And, use your headphones.

I saw CTA very early in the band's career and Terry Kath made quite an impression on me.

Like Tom mentioned in a previous post, Terry was using a Tele and an Acoustic 150 head and cab. I remember wanting one of this Acoustic 150's in the worst way after seeing that show. Never got one and probably wouldn't like it very much if I played through one these days. ha ha

Terry sure could play!
