Hello all, I was able to join the forum today with Jack's help.
I've been playing guitar for a bit over 25 years now (since Christmas 1986). The first time I heard of a Tom Anderson was (IIRC) a video about a massive rack company that had embraced the Ultra-Sonic pickups and programmable EQ as the solution to every player's problems. Then in 1988, the Kirk Hammett Guitar World cover that made everyone I knew lust after a TAG.
Times change, and I soon got away from hard rock and took up blues and pathetic attempts at jazz. My 80's locking trem superstrats gave way to a series of Strats, Teles, a Hamer semihollow with P-90's, and a PRS CU24. Andersons weren't on my radar as they seemed way out of reach.
In 1995, my then-new wife bought me my PRS Custom 24, which has taken me a long time to appreciate properly. In part, it was lack of an amp that worked with the PRS. Now I have that amp (Mesa Mark V), and a real appreciation for "heavier" music than I've been playing for the last 15 years or so, including progressive rock and fusion.
This year is my 20th wedding anniversary, and my wife wants to get me a nice gift. Another guitar that I will keep. I think that it will be some sort of superstrat with the things I've found I like - a well made, versatile guitar with hotter-than-vintage pickups, a nonlocking trem, and perhaps a pretty top. I've worked out what I want in terms of neck dimensions, and it looks like Tom Anderson Guitars can build something in line with what I'd envision.
So I'm new here, and although I don't have an Anderson, there's a chance that I may in the next year. I'm here to soak it in, ask some questions, and make sure that if I do order a TAG, I get a guitar that I will keep for a very long time.
