I went to the Arlington guitar show this weekend and ended up with a new suhr Modern carve top. I was looking for a quality instrument with a locking trem (which in my mind means Anderson or Suhr). We had a more rock oriented set list this morning and... Wow. This ones a monster.

Met Andy Wood at the Guitar Sanctuary (local high end shop) booth. Nice guy. Crazy player. Their updated "riot" distortion pedal is a beast. They also had a new Honey Burst Surf Crowdster plus that was incredible. I'd be shocked if they didn't sell that one.

I also ran across Cardinal guitars. Unusual guitars that use non traditional woods like Tulip and Mesquite. Interesting results. There are clips on YouTube.

Saw several Fano guitars. Anybody know anything about them? Seemed nice with a cool retro vibe.

Hmmm, guess that's about it.

How DARE you not post pics.

I've played a few Suhrs and owned one for a brief time.

Wonderful guitars. The one I owned was the equal to my Andersons in every way.

Ok, ok. I'll get an update with some pictures up in a bit. I knew I was going to catch flak for not doing the original post with pics (but did it anyway because I was being lazy)...

You have 24 hours, then we all come to your house and TP it... and that's quite a distance for Big Harry, so don't make him book a flight...

Hmmm, fighting attachment problems... I know I've done this before.
Anyway it's a carved top Modern. 24 frets. It's got HSH configuration with an SSH+ in the bridge, an ML in the middle, and an SSV in the neck. I'm not sure I understand the question about the neck pickup. I used it yesterday morning and it sounded good. I guess that means it sounds like a normal neck pickup. It's got the modern elliptical neck carve .800-.850. It feels a bit flatter than the even taper. More of a shredder feel but not quite as slim or flat as an Ibanez.

The maple top and the alder body (along with the hotter pups) give it a more focused lead sound. A couple of folks (who didn't notice the new guitar, it looks similar to my drop-top to the uninformed) came up later and mentioned how good the solos sounded. So, I think it's a keeper...

Pics coming...

The only thing I'd change (in retrospect) is that it has a natural headstock. I'd rather have black or matching, but I fell in love with it as is :-).

Oh, and it's only got one strap button on the bottom. Weird.
