Hello i am considering switching out my lovely workhorse Koch Multitone Combo with a little Mesa Mini Rectifier. It have som nice features that the bigger brother dont have, and i think it will suite my style and playing.. The clean on this sounds is so nice, and so the other settings. I am very satisfied with my Koch, and i love the 3 ch amp! guitarist often come up to me and says i have a realy nice clear tone and sound..Its not only my amp i think, but the clearity is also my lovely Andersons effort!.. I play in various settings and need all 3 channels. The Mesa have only 2, but several modes. Not so practical to switch mode on the amp panel, but i think i will live with it.. i am usually not using more than 2ch in one song.. so i can do the switching between songs. Maby the solution is to have a high gain pedal and only use chanalswitch for clean and crunch. for effects and reverb i will still use my TC-Gforce. I am planning to get a Keely time machine boost, for mainly wolum boost, because i hate using a wolumepedal.. i am used to solo level, but the Mesa Mini dont have this feutre.

Anyone have some tougths?? i am tired of carrying the heavy Koch around, and the smaller wattige, is not a broblem, when i am micing up and uses in ear monitoring. we have no monitors destroying the sound on stage and keep stage sound as low as we can get..

The mini is excellent at the modern high gain sound. There is quite a volume change when you switch modes so I'm not sure that's a good solution live. Did i say the high gain sound is great? The very clean sound is good, but i struggle a bit with mild break up. We had one at our namm booth and it seldom left the high gain channel.

Thanx Tom I have not tryed it yet, onle heard some clips. The 2. Channel is verry nice on my Koch, and have very nice break up and smooth tone like Mark Knopfler strat, and I Can turn up the gain where the Highgain channel 3 takes over.. so the Mesa Mini may not be as versitail as i want!! But the size is realy nice together with a 1x12 cab, it takes a lot less space and The weight of the Koch is realy hurting my back! Any other suggestions for a top equal size as the mini, with enaugh headroom and at least 2channels? I can live with a highgain pedal if it gives me nice clean and breakup crunch. I not play metal or heavy stuff..

I had the pleasure of checking one out at Guitar Center in VB. I was AMAZED at the sound. Of course, I didn't have one of my Andy's with me and had to use a PRS (a close second choice of guitar) but it sounded unbelievable. I of course set it like I do my Tri-Recto, EVERYTHING tone related and gain on 5 and it was REALLY great sounding.

Hi, I needed/wanted a low wattage alternative as well. My buddy Michael James loves the mini recto and I've had a chance to get to know that amp through MJ a bit.

However, I worked with Tien Lawrence at Mesa and ended up following his recommendation to go with the 5:25+. Of course, it is a totally different vibe than the Mini-Recto. I'm not a "recto guy". However, the 5:25+ has plenty of gain on tap for high gain playing if you want it, but it isn't the "recto vibe." For me, the Solo feature and the entire GEQ system on the 5:25+ add a variety of flexibility that the Mini-Rec doesn't have, in addition to its own mode choices. I've been really happy with my 5:25+ in the month I've had it. Even though I intended to get a head, the combo is so compact and light, it is a total grab-and-go amp. Besides, Tien rushed one for me in the cool new Burgundy covering (see below).

Unless you are a hard core Recto tone guy, I'd suggest at least considering the 5:25+ as a variation on the theme of small, low power options.
