well, yes. corey was visiting the other day and was off to a big event so i sent the raven off with him. we don't have an easy way to add a new model to our site so we are at a bit of a loss as to how to show it to you all. we are also in the middle of a completely new software set for our office so we are doing double entries everywhere. the new system should make us faster and better at the technical side of things which in turn will make us better equipped to serve you all. this means for the mean time that roy, rach, and laurie are all up to their eyeballs in extra work so i have not been able to tear roy away to get some good shots.

Sweet. I have always liked the jazzmaster look but hated that trem/bridge on it.

When will production models be available for sale? I'd love to get my hands on one.

we have actually taken a few orders from dealers already.

i spent a fair amount of time getting the body a bit sleeker and not so large feeling. it's still a bit bigger than our T's and S's, but not giant. we are doing both scales and most any pickup combo.

guitar will be priced like a classic.

That looks awesome Tom! I can't wait to get a better look. Can you use Facebook to announce it (pics and all)? Probably the quickest way to get it out to the masses.

BTW, let me know if you have any software needs.

Tom: aesthetics aside, are there particular advantages to this body design, or particular functions it lends itself to? Curious what mark you're hitting...

tom

the guitar does really hang differently, so it makes you play differently. we get comments from time to time from people wanting a bigger body. this has the feel of a bigger body without the feeling like you can barely reach over it. you forearm feels like it wants to come down on the body rather than come in from an angle like an s shape.
sound wise it should not be way different than an S, but i think it is going to get ordered more as a 2 pickup guitar which S's don't that often, so the tonal palette may vary quite a bit. it also allows for controls to be in very different places unlike the S. people ask for that too. switch can be where you see it or up above the strings on the pg.

and i must admit i am really enjoying looking at something different for a change.

I'm still working on the next guitar that zoran will be interested in. it will have very good access to the upper most frets.

The mame came after looking at a black one. The silhouette reminded of the bird with it's long tail feathers.

noticed the raven in coreys pic only had one strap button on the bottom? Because of body shape or prototype? Boost avail too?

BFC
06-03-2013, 05:52 PM
Kinda looks like the shape doesn't accommodate the dual strap buttons.

tom
06-03-2013, 06:27 PM
correct, it's enough of an angle that it would tip over if you leaned it. we played with an off center button and a bumper but it got too weird.

I love it. I need one. In short scale. I wonder if there is a configuration that would make it sound twangy like a Tele. I was thinking a tele would be next but couldn't quite fall in lust with the idea, yet I like those tele sounds for country type music. Hmmmm..... I guess it's a wait-and-see moment.

tom

the split sounds on that guitar are pretty great. maybe corey will chime in, not sure if he has messed with them or not.

at this point we have not limited the pickup options on the raven, so you could get any combination. so far they have all been ordered with either pq's or
Ph's.

Can't believe I didn't see this!

Yeah, I've messed with the split sounds a ton. I'm finding that I always bring the Raven as one of two guitars at every gig. It's always the Raven + Classic, Raven + Bulldog, or Raven + tele. Those other guitars are fatter or sparklier, or twangier, but the Raven seems to fit in every gig I've done. Rocked out fuzz tones are a little rounder, clean and cutting tones are punchy, and the volume knob takes you from jazz to rock pretty easily. There's no such thing as the perfect guitar, but the Raven is probably the one guitar I could bring to any gig and not feel like I might be tonally underprepared. And the look kinda defies genre, so it's not like anyone could claim I'm bring a rock guitar to a country gig or vise versa.
