I should already know this, but:
1. When the boost toggle is in the ON position, is it affecting all three pickups or just the bridge?
2. When it is NOT in the ON position, the pickups are operating in what could be thought of as "normal " mode, right?
Have been working lately to rely more on the guitars' controls and less on pedals, and realized I was not entirely clear on these points.
Thanks!

That's how it works on the guitars I have with VA boost. All on or all off, (normal).

Yep, boost on affects all pickups, boost off is normal. Love the va boost-very handy and useful.

I think it's just filtering the output differently in the different positions. Obviously it's not actively boosting the signal.
Only have had one guitar with this feature, but I also love it. It seems to have a different effect on the three different pickups, or is that my imagination?

On my guitar (HSS), the boost doesn't add much to the humbucker, so the effect is more on the single coils. Also, the boost is more dramatic on cleanish amp settings. When I'm playing higher gain amps, the boost makes the pickups sound slightly darker and compressed.
it is a transformer network, so it is actually boosting certain frequencies passively. it robs from one place and boosts another. it has a greater effect on weaker pickups. it has a wonderful effect on lower output singles and the effect diminishes on hotter ones like the TF3 or hotter humbuckers. originally it was made for our VA series vintage singles.

Thanks guys, I love this place.

It works insanely well on them.
That said, this weekend (so far) it's all about the Atom (which every time I play, I seem to start to wonder why I would ever need to own any other guitar). Classic and Crowdster both remaining in the case (with brand new strings even!). Maybe next week.
