I was wondering if anyone on here had ever had custom inlay work done and if you have who did it and would you recommend them?

I think I'd like to have eagle feather inlays done on my TAG neck and and an eagle in flight on the body or mabey an eagle in flight in the middle of the neck with eagle feathers for the markers on frets not covered by the eagle in flight or maybe just the eagle in flight with no other inlay on the board.

Do I seem kind of undecided?

Some of the best inlay work I've ever seen comes from Ron Thorn. The man is an artist and they do some amazing work. Our lead guitar player has a Thorn and it seems the Thorn family is similar to the Anderson family as far as community and communication from the 'Supreme Commander' down.

Haven't had any custom inlay work done, but I do know Mark Kett does great inlays. Check out his site:

Also, another local luthier who does insane inlays near me is Gritt Laskin:

Good luck!

Craig Lavin does nice stuff too. I've had lots of his work come through my shop on guitars.

Big +1 here. Ron does some of the really cool inlay work for a certain large company's Custom Shop...some of it has even been in a calendar for that company. ;)

Yeah, another big +1 for Ron Thorn. He has done amazing work, both on his own guitars and for others. Nice guy, too. Check out his website.

I ran across this inlay artist, Jimmi Wingert (http://www.jimmiwingertinlay.com/), on another site. Her mom is Kathy Wingert (http://www.wingertguitars.com/index.html), custom acoustic guitar builder.
