Hi all, I was browsing through the technical section of old and found a comment from Tom in 2003 on the relative size of low rise fret wire compared to other manufacturers with PRS being called out as a specific example.
"the 2 wires are the same size before installation. the .047 you're measuring is the fret after dressing and some wear. the smalls would be a big change in feel. we now have what we call low rise, which is .104x .047(undressed). this is the same size as what we used before the triangular heavy. also the same as what prs uses, but stainless."
I have been browsing the web at TAG's recently and have seen several contenders but have been put off by the low rise frets as all my TAG's are heavy frets. I am not precious about neck shapes or fret size but do prefer a happy medium or thicker and like the heavy frets and assume medium frets described as being as tall as heavy but not as wide would be fine.
However Tom's comment from years ago reads as though the low rise frets are comparable to PRS standard fret size which I have happily played over many years where in my own mind low rise would be vintage fender / gibson "fretless wonder" size.
Can anyone comment if my new found hope is true that low rise in TAG speak is not that low as this opens up a whole world for me and a world of hurt for my wallet
