Hello All -
I'm in possession of an older Schecter Tele and in searching several forums, it seems there are many here (including Mr. Anderson) with a wealth of information about these instruments. Any light that could be shed on the age or origins of this particular instrument would be greatly appreciated. Images can be seen at the following link:

Thanks for any info and Happy New Year to all!
that looks to be japanese made neck and body but american pickups. so that may have been assembled in the 83-84 era. the neck plate should have a serial number on it which could mean it was done a bit later after things went to dallas.

In any case, those are pretty cool guitars...

That they are...I've got two in the house now. One is definitely a Dallas instrument and now the one posted above. Thanks so much for getting back to me regarding the 84ish instrument. Japanese parts or no, it's a much nicer instrument than the 85 I have. I believe the 85 (ebony board, black matching headstock) is made with wood from Canada (Larrivee?). There is a link below to the 85. It had non-original PUs that I didn't care for. Swapped them for a set of Andersons...very nice!

That might have been around the time that La Si Do (the makers of the excellent Godin and Seagull guitars among others) was making a LOT of necks and bodies for other manufacturers. They were, iirc, mainly a "parts" company before they started focusing on their own instruments.

That would make sense. The neck on the 85 was dated AOU (abbreviation for August in French). Isn't Godin in Quebec?

Resurrecting this thread...I own the instrument now and it does not have a serial number on the neck plate. Does this indicate VN or possibly built at one of the Schecter shops across the country?
i didn't see all the pics before. i see that it has a neck plate with schecter engraved on it with the serial number. that would date it to the dallas years at least a year after van nuys closed.
