Some know, some don't :D
The real question is will you do it again?
We have done 3 so far. I have given in on what I have held out on for 25 years. It is now an option, although there seems to be no proof:D
only for time like this, i feel a little bit lonely that i am a rosewood fretboard fan haha

Don't worry, the 22 fret limit is likely to stay around for a long long time...

Hey! That's just wrong! You have any idea how hard that was to keep my yap shut on that little detail! LOL! ROOOOYYYYYYY!!........UNCLE TOM'S TEASING ALL US KIDS WITH THE GOODIE'S! :(
Ok...ok....ok..............pretty please post a pic of my soon to be shipped Sage Green Metallic Classic/Black Pickguard with maple neck and PAINTED HEADSTOCK??????? :D :D

It left early this week and I did not get a pic. You'll have to do it:D

ok.....first its good to know that nobody can see the spontaneous "happy dance" I just performed!:D Second....be honest....how much did it hurt to slap paint on that headstock??? Come on.....did you REALLY hate it when it was done?
Do you know how freakin hard it was to keep my YAP shut on that little detail?? Seriously! Than I was thinking how could I post a pic of this thing without showing the headstock! LOL! Thank God it got out BEFORE it arrived! The only problem with the whole deal is that MINE IS THE "3RD" ONE! DAMN IT! LOL! You know I tried about a year ago...but got shot down! But hey...timing is everything! :D
Really....what did you think when it was all together? Would ya really disown it as a bastard step child or could it actually be (gasp) just a killer Anderson Guitar that sounds and plays amazing with a little sumthin extra never seen before on a Tom Anderson Guitar? I'm bettin on killer overall Gitr! Wow....and perfect timing as I just shipped out my Suhr Standard that this is replacing. It will be a very nice counterpart to the very traditional Anderson Classic S I just got bout a month ago Sunburst/Rosewood/SSS.
So I know you put your hands on most all the guitars before they go out....did you have any impression of this one? Just curious......

dun dundundun!
...and a solitary scream was heard off in the distance as a small cloud of dust was spotted on the horizon. It appeared to be moving ever closer until the angry mechanical resonance of the tired engine finally into came into ear shot! There was no mistaking it now....it was drawing closer! Suddenly, as if it had been trying to conceal its true form until the last moment, the temperature suddenly plumeted as a white and purple hue began to conspire with the shadows of the setting sun! But as the last rays trickled through the twisted and mangled landscape, faint images of fire and fury mingles with now unmistakable dissonance of steel and oil...still closer it came. Frozen and in a cold sweat I could feel the pressure all around me increase as I could now detect the constant pounding of hooves..yet no rider was in sight! But the form in the distance was now almost on top of me! Than, as I began to loose all feeling in my body, the crackle of rocks giving way under the weight of heavy wheels...and a figure was suddenly present. From nowhere the figure moved closer to me. As he approached i began to make out a simple rectangular shape the he bared with both hands. He didn't so much walk as he did become closer with each blink of my eyes. And suddenly his breath upon me! The fading light obscured all but the eyes....black but on fire at the same time! Reaching out with both hands he offered me the box. As I reached out, the figure in front of me suddenly spoke! Only one word came out and it felt like that of serpent! I will never forget the sound of that voice as he slowly hissed but a single word........................."PROOOOOOOOF".................................................a nd the next moment he was gone!
I sit here now at my keyboard desperately clinging to grasp that I have been forever altered in my deepest beliefs! That life as I have always known it has been shattered by powers beyond my comprehension. By the dark gift of Pandora! That I am now only one a few chosen to carry the burden enlightenment! One of the few to now live in the knowledge that it DOES exist! Why me? Can I live with the responsibility? Will it break me? How do I continue to keep the world in the dark and let it go about it's everyday chores in happy ignorance? How do I not scream to the world that.........................BIGFOOT IS REAL????????

Classy! I don't know if a bright color would look as nice on a painted headstock, but the lighter sage looks awesome!
..however, it might be interesting to see a TRAFFIC YELLOW one :D

Nice! Sorry, but I don't know the history regarding painted headstocks on maple fretboards, but why was it a "no-no" to begin with?
PaulP
11-23-2012, 09:57 PM
Well, as Tom said, he just did not care for a painted headstock on a maple fretboard. And since his name is on the headstock it was/is his prerogative to simply say "not an option". I have always liked having a matching headstock on a strat/tele type guitar, but I first saw it on early fenders. Although it certainly was more common on some of the 80's shredder types. Truthfully I dont honestly look at it as an 80's thing...I see many Musicman Axis guitars with matching headstocks/maple necks. Fender does it sometimes. It's just an aesthetic thing.
Tom has done it for years on rosewood/darker necked guitars...just not on maple fretboards.......till now! :D It really works well on the Sage Green Metallic because its a light color. I absolutely love the color and it is a great contrast with the black pickguard....that does give a bit of a more modern look. Overall the guitar looks really classy....at least to me. Will I do the next one with a painted headstock? I dunno...maybe, maybe not.
Oh for what it's worth......the guitar SOUNDS EXCELLENT! All this talk about how it looks.....the important part is that is sounds great! It's everything I was hoping for. I am currently also digging the M1's in the neck and bridge. They really do sound like fat single coils without the hium to my ear. Not quit as chimey as a single, but really warm!
I am very happy with the whole guitar so far! It plays and feels rediculously good to me...that is just a given. Problem now is that I like the neck profile so much that I want the same profile on my sunburst/sss Anderson Classic S!

got it. thanks for the explanation. I guess I'm so used to seeing them on charvels/jacksons, that I thought it was weird that the painted headtstock was not an option (until now).

actually the first ones I ever saw were on 60's fenders. Don't think you can get any more "anti-80's" than that. I dont look at anything short of pointy headstocks and bright pink/purple guitars as 80's.
Even though I graduated high school in '86 and was right dead in the middle of it all...it would be a freakin greek tradgedy if the only music that people associate with the 80's is "hair bands". Just because MTV and the record company's made a cartoon out of much of the image for a short period of time doesn't mean that some great music wasn't created between 1980 and 1989! My god....do many great players and songs! Crazy! The decade that should be totally forgotten musically is the 90's! The anti-everything decade!
never saw a 60's maple neck fender with a painted headstock. rosewood yes, maple no.

Hmmm......that may be true. I swear I saw them but could have been reissues. But either way...rosewood or maple...I know the first ones I saw were vintage fenders. Wonder what guys think of Brad Paiselys tele's? I know may are custom built instruments but most have painted headstocks with maple boards.....not exactly 80's style guitars. Now walk into a blues club and whip out an Ibenez RG550 or Jackson Soloist and I think ya got a point! Lol! Although it seems that a gibson flying V is exceptable.....go figure!
I spose different strokes and all....I personally dislike anything with a bigsby trem! Some people love them! Either way...this particular guitar is truly one of the best sounding strat type guitars I have ever had! I am so stoked.....its gotta be the painted headstock! LOL!
