Looking at a 2001 T/A Classic HSS (VA1R,VA1,H2+) Swamp ash, Maple neck, Transluscent Amber... very good condition. Asking $1900.... Were doing a straight trade, I'll be trading my 2011 PRS DGT Goldtop with moons in excellent condition. Been itching to get back in the Anderson Fold. I play mostly Blues/Blues Rock... will that pickup combo work well for that style of music? Also did 2001 have stainless steel frets? build date is 12-17-01A

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Be honest with you, I wouldn't do it. I would suggest you try to get a more recent year Anderson. This pickup configuration will capture all styles but you can probably find a more recent model for what you have. All the new features are well worth the wait. I don't think the stainless steel frets where available on that one and I strongly suggest you get them. Sell yours out right and pick up something newer. If you can find one with the SC1/SC1/H3C pickups your going to love them.. I'm selling a DGT myself after getting my recent Anderson with this setup.

Just my opinion.

Hey John, Thanks for your thoughts on the subject. I went and played the Classic today and it sounded very good. The guitar had a few dings on the back of the neck.:( Which did'nt prohibit the playing... but when you ran your hand down the back of the neck you could feel them, other then that... it played like an Anderson.:D

He is offering me the Classic and $250 for my DGT. I am tempted due to the fact that I need to play anything before I buy it. I thought of selling my DGT outright and just putting that towards ordering a New T/A Classic... but I am on a tight budget.

All in all it was a nice guitar with a few Bumps & Bruises...but it had a great vibe.

What to do... What to do?????

Sings in maple necks can easily be filled with super glue then filed and sanded smooth. You will still see them, but you won't feel them.

Hey Tom, thanks for the tip. I might buy this guitar play it for a while and send it back to you guys for a SS Refret... could I get a rough Idea on what that might cost?

Thanks.

I think for $1900 you can find all kinds of Classics with the right PUPS, SS frets and no dings. I totally agree with John on this.

And honestly, EVERY Anderson plays like a dream. I've been through about a dozen or so, to get to the six I have, and loved every one.

Dings suck, but it makes character...on the other hand, When ever I bought a new TAG, probably around 10 or so......I guarded it on stage like I was guarding an infant....I hated that.....I wouldn't be so worried about a used one I bought, especially if it already had some wear and tear...

I was looking at that guitar...the amber one...It has all killer specs. $1900 is a little steep though for that.....you can order a custom new one for a few hundred more(maybe a little more)

Most likely I would have to do a Internet deal... I prefer to do a Local deal. I'm a 'try before I buy' kinda guy, I may just have to take a leap of faith.:o

I would be getting $250 + the T/A For my DGT. Your right I figured I could spec out a new T/A Classic for about $500 more.

I figure the Used T/A is worth about $1600 ....thats why he'd need to kick in another $250 for the DGT.

It was a great sounding guitar though.

Tough decision, guy.

One thing I didn't see mentioned is the new (post-2006, I think) neck attachment configuration. It is really cool.

It's a shame the neck got dinged...any other place on the guitar such would be purely cosmetic. Even though the repair would be excellent (if performed by TAG), you may wind up noticing even the tiniest imperfections...think princesses and peas.

Remember that you're spending your hard earned money on this baby, and it should be in near perfect condition like most previously owned TAGs. Right now, I'm seeing three or more strikes against this guitar: no SS frets, dings on the neck, older neck attachment style, and older pickups. You could easily spend $500 or more to correct these items and be no better off than if you bought a post-2006 instrument.

Regarding playability: I'd suggest you make an agreement with the seller which would give you the option of returning the guitar (at your expense and in same condition, of course) if it doesn't work for you. Based on comments I've read and heard over past years I think the risk would be minimal. No, make that miniscule. Finding a guitar through this forum would be ideal, I believe. Simply post your desired features on the WTB section and you may find someone who is hiding your almost-never-been-played TAB under their bed.

Good luck! No matter how you decide, you'll still have a TAG...what more can you ask for?

One other suggestion: add your location to you personal section. There might be a dozen or more TAG owners within 25 miles of you. And one of them just might have your guitar under his or her bed.
