Greetings all -

I just picked up a bottle of Jescar Guitar Polish (jescar.com) and find this polish to be much better than other polishes. It applies simply and wipes off leaving the guitar looking like the day you opened the case for the first time. And it smells good. Worth a look.

I just ordered a couple of bottles. They give you a microfiber polish cloth with each bottle. I haven't tried it yet, but if it's good enough for Tom.......

The only thing that got me a bit was that the shipping was about as expensive as the polish.

Would you like to discuss shipping costs with my friend Zoran and myself who are located in Deepest Darkest South Africa????????

I have been quoted up to $ 800.00 for shipping for a guitar from the US.

Then we pay import costs, handling fees and 14% VAT when whatever it is hits our shores!!!!

Its a hard life here in Africa......................................

Gary is right 100 %
And when I see fantastic second hand Tom Anderson guitar for only $1,500 , but shipped only to CONUS , I am getting mad !
For $1,500 you can(not ?) buy Tokai here in SA  :D

Cheers
Zoran

Well, I sincerely feel bad for you guys in Africa, and the heavy shipping costs you must pay.

I happen to live in Pennsylvania. It's a 2 hour and 20 minute drive from my house to Jescar's location.

The cost for the two bottles of polish was $23.98. The original cost for "shipping and handling" was quoted at $24.26. I went ahead and ordered it anyway, based on the fact that Tom really likes the stuff. I figured I'd suck it up and see if I liked their polish.

After I put in my CC info to pay, they sent me an invoice that "discounted" the shipping to $15.63.

UPS shipping from there to here should be a couple of dollars.....3 or 4, I'd think.

Unfortunately, there are companies that charge a high price for shipping, beyond what the shipping actually costs. I guess it helps their bottom line.

I'd gladly pay more for the product up front, rather than get squeezed on the shipping cost. It's just not how I'd do business.

Hopefully, I'll love the polish, and forget all about the high price of shipping.

Crazy as it might seem, if you include the packaging cost that amount is about right for a one pound single zone shipment via UPS or FDX Ground. Shipping alone is about $11.50. Add the box and packaging at four dollars, it is probably close.

That said, USPS Priority Flat Rate would have been less than $5.00 and the carton is free.

My point is, JESCAR and many other firms would save their clients a lot of money, and likely increase sales, if they did a little bit of research.

Someone should hire me to do this type of consulting for collections of small business. I'd take half of the money I saved in the first year as comp. Heck someone should hire me for anything! Been out of work too long. Then maybe I could afford some new Andy's? :D

Shipping small goods is expensive if you don't do a lot of it. Danno is right on about UPS prices. USPS is a better deal for sure, but as a business we have to take anything over 13 oz to the post office in person and stand in line for what can turn into a 45 minute trip unless you have a minimum wage person, which we have none of, you're losing money on every trip.

Exactly. For regular smaller shippers trips to the PO can be expensive and disruptive. And UPS/FDX will often nearly match the USPS price for frequent shippers, so when you factor in everything it often works out to stick with the big two.

Where UPS/FDX wins BIG TIME is the price of insurance and tracking efficiency. The USPS is like a loan shark on insurance and their tracking is weak and not timely.

So all you small business owners, hire me for a 12 month contract, I'll analyze your logistics, and your cost is 1/2 your first year savings! C'mon I need a T Classic!

(WHAT A FRIGGIN TROLL I AM!) :p

Danno, shipping consultant extraordinare!!

I know, nothing is cheap these days. I think that the volume on line retainers who have free shipping also make paying a shipping fee seem more painful.

Hey, I paid it. I'm going to try to use the polish this weekend. I wanna check out my investment!! ;)
