Hello All,

Please forgive me for asking it is is not appropriate to do so.

Anyone know what Tom's favorite pickups & guitar are currently?

I think I have mentioned these before here. I often play something that I am thinking about offering. I've been playing this one for close to a year now. It's a bulldog special with pq1- and pq2. It has a mahogany body and an all bamboo 6 on a side neck. It has our standard trem with ti saddles. Not your average bulldog, but i love what it does for me. Having only a 3 way switch has made me focus a lot more on what I'm playing. My rig has also been pared down to the essentials to go along with the guitar.

I used to always carry my m1 Tm2 equipped shorty hollow t classic along but got so used to the special that I have not bothered for several months.

I did a search but did not find feedback on your personal guitar.

A person could speculate that an M1 and a PQ1 are simuliar in tone. Are they? How are they different and how are they the same?

I just go a pair of Hollow T Classics with the M1 in the neck and I like it a lot but have not heard the PQs.

Will your next personal build keep a M or PQ in the bridge or will it have a full size Humbucker in the bridge?

tom, just wondering... is the bamboo just an experiment or can it be ordered?

also, what does it do sonically on that slab mahogany guitar.

Pq and m are quitedif. The pq is a bit fuller and there is something about the dynamics that I just love about the pq. There's a growl when you dig in hard that I don't hear with anything else. They also clean up so well that I find I'm doing a lot less pedal switching.
I dont think I could stand the endless explanations and questions about the bamboo at this point. I have been watching it for a tear now cause I really wad not sure how it woyld stand the test of time. It is only grass you know, did not know how if would do at retaining its stiffness. And with people debating the merits of the same mahgany grown in neighboring countries, I can only imagine what the wood snobs would say about bamboo.
It's very lively, lots of high end stringyness, a nice compliment to the slab mahigany body. You people who can't stand any fret buzz when you hit hard would probably not like it. Sometimes it feels like its on the verge of exploding, and I like that.

They are both dual coil pickups but the biggest difference that affects the tone is that the M's are seeing the string in two places when the PQ is only seeing it in one. Overall construction of the pickups are pretty different.

Tom,

Thanks for the feedback.
I guess we will have to wait to see about the bridge Hum.
Hope you do not get to sunburned. Kauai is my favorite. The Na'pli is a true gem.

just out of curiosity, but what is your rig down to these days?

usually the fulton webb 17 head with the bogner cube. many days i'll only use the hot cake and m9. turbo tuner is always there as is a vol pedal which is only there for the the ebow which does get used almost every time i play. i also have a boiling point that i occasionally use for very high gain stuff and an sho clone which i sometimes use for a boost or when i need a cleanish tone louder. when i feel like carrying another piece i'll take the /13 9/15 head. i think deep down it's my fav.

I have been wondering can Boiling point get into high gain territory, since there's Baby Blues that's made for high gain. (If we're talking about Rockbox)

Yes it has tones of gain and is quite versatile. I have not tried take it do scooped metal tones but it is great for fat solo tones and getting controlled feedback at surprisingly low volume levels.
