View Full Version : A Hallmark moment

I had a rare hallmark parent moment tonight.
I always "fantasized" about one day playing music with my kids. My older daughter has no musical inclination at all. My 16 year old daughter, on the other hand, plays harp, some piano by ear and has been studying singing and has a killer voice (show tunes mostly). So, tonight, somehow we ended up in the music room, messing around. I got out an acoustic guitar, and she had her ipod and laptop, sat at the piano and we started playing songs. We worked our way through Beatles, Mark Cohn, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Plain White T's, and a few others. For an hour, we just worked out songs, sang them and moved on. It was a total sappy parent moment. It was awesome.

I guess if I have to have some Anderson content, there was a Hollow Classic on a stand in the corner......

Anyway, it was one of those memorable parent moments, when you forget how insane your kids can make you, and you enjoy time with them.

I feel lucky.

Awesome stuff. Mine is only 3 1/2, so it'll be a few years yet. But, I'm training him with CDs full of the rockin' and the rollin'. :)

I had a vfew chances to play with both my boys when they were young then quite a bit with my married son for a year or so at church. Nothing like it. Miss it a lot.

And make no mistake, the gratuitous Anderson mention awards you no extra respect around here. Just being a dad is noteworthy and admirable in itself. Don't forget that this is the place where we'll run up 4 pages of pictures of our family dogs! :)

I had a music moment with my two boys a couple of months ago and my wife snapped a picture of it. I hope there are many more for all of us, but I certainly appreciate the ones we've had as if they're our last.

I did a Christmas song with my youngest son a couple years ago, he sang I played acoustic. It was very nice, we plan to do more. He's doing all the voices and I'm doing the guitar. A few clams on my part :o but it was really great to do that with him. I did some stuff with my dad before he passed and I'm glad we did it. Here's the song with my son.

at our church, my kids were on the stage leading the worship to the entire congregation. 600 people would be a large crowd for them. my oldest (13) plays piano and my youngest (12) is a very well voiced leader. I got to play acoustic behind them and it was a thrill for me to do that. a very proud moment that i won't ever forget.
