Well not exactly "jazz", but still a nice version:

I actually kinda liked it - I think it worked. I thought his introduction was quite good as well. When you think of how many hundreds if not thousands of times he's played that song I'm sure it's fun/interesting to breathe some new life into it.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting Danno. Reminds me a lot of this one from MTV's unplugged back in the early 90's. I think I like the 'Jazz' one better.

Well not exactly "jazz", but still a nice version:

Clapton makes mention of Carlos in the video. Carlos was my student from 1991 to 1995 in New York City. Carlos was always a bass student however, he is also a very accomplished guitar player. From the first day I met him when he was 12, I knew he would make it big. Today, Carlos not only holds the first seat in the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, but he also directs various jazz and latin jazz ensembles at Lincoln Center. He is also a Grammy recipient as many of his recordings have been nominated and won Grammy's.

Love Clapton, but Carlos hits home and I'm very proud of him.

I really hope you can give yourself some credit for providing Carlos the guidance and inspiration which led him to his talents. And I hope he's found joy in what you've given him. Be proud, Suriel! Very proud!

very cool indeed Suriel ...How is life in the NYC treating you ???

I have to confess I own every Clapton recording and DVD from Yardbirds to Mayall to Cream to Collins to Sumlin...to Sting to things he did with Retail Therapy to the cd he recorded with the Japanese artist
I did not buy this cd ..I don't mean to be the odd man out but I don't get this cd I know its a reflection of my primitive tastes but they just sound off key to me ... ..I know its me but why ?? :)

I'm not a great teacher, but Carlos is an exceptional student. He is so good at music theory that the only way I would be able to keep up with him was to have him play the pieces backwards.

I know this much, Suriel is a GREAT player. I've heard his work. And appropriately humble about it too, a trait often sadly missing from the gunslinger mentality of guitarists! I would imagine that anyone having the pleasure of learning from him would be quite an accomplished musician.

Back to the videos, there really is some cool stuff in there, especially Joliet Bound, Joe Turner's Blues, and Kidman Blues. Dixie, Zydeco and other New Orleans type Jazz, or songs performed or adapted to that style, with its seeming organized disarray has always intrigued me. Clapton actually seems more comfortable and having more fun on songs like that than he did on Layla, or at least that's my perception.

Fun stuff!
