I recently played a gig where I needed a guitar tuned B to B. I don't have a baritone so I just bought some baritone strings, 14 - 68's and strung my Drop Top with them. It worked like a charm. So now that gig is over, but I'm wondering am I doing any harm to the neck with these big fat stings and tension on my neck. I'm thinking I'd kind of like to keep it strung this way for a while.
there's no harm in changing things up, as long as you readjust when you change to make it play right. i am surprised that the .068 worked in the nut slot, i would expect it to sit above where it should in the slot and bind up as it is tuned.

Cool, thanks Tom. I was surprised at the nut too. What's crazy is after a day of the guitar getting used to the change in tension, it stayed amazingly in tune. Maybe even more so than with regular tuning.
i think it's safe to generalize that bigger strings stay in tune better once they're set.
