I suspect it is solid Alder- its quite solid and heavy-

the auction says they're all mini buckers, and i don't have any experience with them. VA's would most likely have less output then them. i'd listen real close to how bright the guitar sounds acoustically before investing in different pickups. if it's a really bright guitar you may have to aim darker for pickups.

The guitar sounds balanced and sweet acoustically. Not too bright to my ear. I am totally open to a darker pickup- going for a jazzy sort of sound played mostly clean. Maybe the sf1 sf1 sf2/3 would be darker? My only experience with the pickups are from listening to indoor storm clips-(LOL)-The current pickups are shaped like singles so I would prefer to use something that wouldn't alter the original pickguard/top. Also the current pickups are fine for practice- just dreaming of a fuller sound.

most of the feedback I am reading on these Duncans is that they have low output, and are overly bright and thin.... but they also have some good clean sounds through a tube amp.
if you feel really good about the acoustic sound of the guitar, then the SF1,
sf1, sf3 set would be great. if you think you'd like to lean towards a darker but still single coil tone you could do sf2's in neck and middle.
