Robot?

Anybody played one of the Gibson Robot guitars? Opinions
(if you've played one)?

I like playing slide in open tunings but don't do it much live
because I hate dragging 4 guitars around. Seems like this
might be a good solution to the problem (if it's not junk).

I always thought it was a really cool idea, and actually had an old beater SG that I was going to throw some of the robot tuners on. Initially they had advertised that they would be selling "kits" to retrofit your guitar. I don't think that they ever made to market???

Sorry, but I've never had a chance to try one. It would be great if they worked well, especially for open tunings, as you mentioned.

there is a music shop here in Thousand Oaks that always had one on the wall behind the counter but I never even bothered to ask to play it. It seems cool tho

One of my students has one. It is bad to the bone!...He's blind and always had problems tuning it, at home...even though now, he could do it by ear easily...exact!...but it is one of the first run Robots, silver and blue burst...the tone is awesome, real big and clear and it tunes absolutely perfect....every time!...amazing guitar...it has E, E flat, drop D, open G and 2 or 3 other custom tuning options....sounds like this is your beast...oh.. and it tunes it in seconds

Tronical did sell kits briefly, but that stopped when Gibson
bought them. I'm hoping it may happen again in the future.

I blew my budget at the Dallas Guitar show :-). I went
looking for an Anderson or a Robot. Played a few Andy's but
the one I was looking for wasn't there. The ones I really
liked were too much like what I already have.

Anyway, I ended up with a new Gretsch Duo Jet TVP model
with the Bigsby, TV Jones pups, etc. Very cool guitar with a
vintage vibe and a healthy dose of attitude. Guess the Robot
will have to wait until next time :-).
