I pointed out to the seller that this headstock shape didn't exist until the 90's and nobody was recessing Floyds this early. His reply was that the original neck was scalloped and replaced with this one in '87. He didn't address the trem recess in his reply:

The original neck was scallaped and had the first headstock....this was the first run of new headstock...which was actually late (he had them) 87...so that was changed I just called Neil Citron..this was his guitar..he is Steve Vai's sound engineer. Feel free to call Tom Anderson for further questions...your asumption of a build around though is a bit inaccurate.

Tom, is there history to this or is it just a parts build?

fishy for sure. no engraving on the neck plate. don't know where they got the decal, but we've seen plenty fakes. probably a parts guitar.we did sell a bunch of reject bodies in the early 90's. we were sinking floyds in 85.

he is Steve Vai's sound engineer
That explains the color scheme influence.

FYI...The seller seems like a good guy who wants to find out the truth. I would guess that he was given some bad info when he acquired it.
