What is your favorite amp to use with a single coil and favorite to use with HB guitar ..could be the same ...but right now I like using my Mesa Lone Star Special with my Classic and Hollow T ..and my Duende with Les Paul /Cobra/PRS HB II ...... maybe I am a little bored been dreaming of Toneking Metropolitan but waiting for prices to come down

The LSS has a lot going for it. I have had that amp a few times and never was disappointed with it. After going round and round on the amp merry go 'round, I think I have overcome the amp GAS syndrome and found two amps that do it for me. I sold my Bogner Metropolis yesterday and DON"T miss it.

Dr Z Maz 38 NR 2x10 (Weber Blue Pups) with my HTC (M1, VA1, TV3) best tone I have ever heard with single coils. I like the Epi Dot (SD 59's) with the amp, but with the TA, the pair is its own league.

Allen Accomplice with Winged C 6L6's and a Emi GB-12. Great amp mixing BFDR and qualities with some British overtones. Likes SC's and HB's equally.

Fav amp for single coils is a 1962 Brown Fender Pro Amp... fav with HB's is the Marshall DSl 2000

divided by 13 jrt9/15. i've been using one for about six years and it's still my favorite. i've tried some other great amps, but I always come back to the jrt.

the jrt and a fulton webb 17 get most of the play time. both seem equally at home with all pickups though i do spend less and less time with true single coils.

Has anybody demoed or own an MB Electrodyne? the 112 Combo sounds great with Single Coils. Very warm amp and I wish I could get one. The thing would be a battleship to carry though. My MB DC-5 is awesome with all things!

I played one at Rudy's in NYC. It is really nice on the clean side, like you say. In fact, it is the only MB I like for clean. The OD is pretty good too.

I did not find it any heavier than most other MB 1x12 though.

It has a good 15#s on my DC5 ( must be the tranny). the thing I've learned with MB is tube choice is crucial. I've done exhaustive preamp experimentation over the last 2 years and finally got the combination right between clean and dirty. Still..the Electrodyne, just jumped out at me

Just got a new Top Hat Super Deluxe 1x12....

Played 2 straight out rock gigs using tung sol EL34s this past weekend on humbuckers....wow!

Will switch to JJ 6V6s and use my Hollow Drop T w/ switcheroo for a country gig Saturday. I think it will be the most flexible amp I ever owned.

I have a MB ED 2x12 combo
still waiting for my Bulldog with PQs and HDT to arrive ?March
Its a great amp and the cleans are awesome (single and HBs), as is the vintage low gain
It is just SO LOUD!!
Recent jam SPL was 100-105 DBs (whole band) and I think my master volume was on 1-1.5!
Its definitely a keeper but as I said VERY LOUD!

Oakridge-
I cannot imagine lugging a 212 MB around! the 112 in my local shop has casters, but they don't look too roadworthy..more for rolling around inside a building. My DC rides in a road case with other smaller things and we have to pull it out every gig. Like I said its weighty..but I'm getting older too:o
MB's are loud..I think the ED is a very cool amp! Congrats to you!

Dr. Z Carmen Ghia has been my main amp for quite a while now. Sounds great with both single coils and humbuckers. That said I do have the new amp bug. Some on my short list are:
Mesa Lonestar Special - The other guitar player has one and gets great tone from it.
Fryette Memphis 30 - The clips sound great.
65 Amps London Pro - Heard this at the LA amp show and the tone has been haunting me since.
Tungsten Crema Wheat - Played this at the LA amp show and the tone has been haunting me.

I use Dumble-style amps mostly, and for both.
My Fuchs modded Deluxe reverb gets the most time with my Hollow Classic & Cobra, but my Two Rock Opal sounds pretty good too.

BTW - historically this style amp goes very well with TA guitars:

The two amps that I like most with both single coils and humbuckers are the Carr Rambler and the Dr. Z Maz Jr.18.

I really want to try a Tungsten Crema Wheat.

That picture of our supreme leader is what led me to order my first Andy, a Hollow T w/contours in a dark honey burst.

My Number 1 is a Tony Bruno Underground 30 Reverb. Fantasic head that came with a brad Paisley upgrade. Supposedly Brad has Tony add a different value to something to make the amp a bit brighter and twangier. Love that amp to death. I have a Klon and a 77' TS 808 that adds just the right amount of dirt for my play.

For Humbuckers I 'm still looking for a Fave. Most of my favorite Marshalls are just too loud for my needs. I scored a Germino Massonette 25 just the other day. Been searching high and low for one. These fly when for sale so I always miss out. I finally put dibbs on one a guy had and he Emailed me and asked if I wanted it. I jumped on that like white on rice or a coke on Ice! Its in transit and I hope thats the answer to my humbucker needs. I plan on A/Bing the two heads. Setting the Bruno up for clean and the Germino dirty. Hopefully this will be my last amp I will need for a long while.

Ok, I've added two new amps to the heard since I first replied to this so...

Fryette Memphis 30/18 - 30/18 watt selectable on each channel. The 18 watt mode still uses all four power tubes, but lowers the voltage or something so that tube wear is even (unlike the Mesa Lonestar).

2 channels, with three voices each. The clean channel is capable of pristine cleans at low to moderate volumes and then starts to give up the goods. Wide open it has plenty of gain for blues/classic rock, but metal heads would probably want more. If you're a touch/volume nob player you could easily do a whole gig on this channel alone and not even know/care you have a channel switching amp.

The distortion channel is also capable of great clean tones with the master up and the gain down, but the other way around it is capable of some serious gain. It's smooth and harmonically rich and notes just want to bloom into harmonic feedback as they are held. The voicing switch works well to round out the highs or add low end thump - with the voicing switches and the tone controls it's extremely flexible I couldn't imagine a style you couldn't dial in a usable tone for. It can get compressed a bit with the gain up, but at lower settings responds very well to picking dynamics/volume knob settings.

Both channels have a footswithcable boost that adds 6db of gain/volume if memory serves me right. Some say it's a little too much and would prefer it if it didn't add so much. I've yet to use the boost live, but something tells me it might actually be about the right boost. Others have reported good success using it live.

Tungsten Crema Wheat - everything you've read/heard is true. Not a whole lot of headroom, especially with humbuckers, but the tone! Sweet cleans the go into a nice crunchy breakup that can get down right nasty when cranked! A little more headroom and volume than your standard 5e3 (with 6v6s), and maybe just a bit sweeter overall, but still plenty or raw tweed tone. Small and lightweight but with a big tone. This might be the ultimate grab-and-go/plug-in-and-play amp.

Hands down, Ulbrick Stadium 80 for me with HB and p90s. I've gone thru several amps since then, and this amp will go to the grave with me...

It's one of the brightest amps I've played, but with the right tubes, and esp if you have no reservations running the treble at 9 oclock or even lower, this amp is just amazing for rock!.

Wish Ulbrick got more attention here in the states....or do I? lol

I have yet to plug any guitar, single-coil, humbucking, or both, into my MAZ 38 Sr. that doesn't sound better through it than through anything else I've had around...

Pietro, We have twins! Is yours a 1x12 or 2x10?

I have put a Eminence Wizard in my Allen Accomplice. More headroom with a clean Fendery tone. I have been happy with Wizards in many of my amps. The Allen's MV and volume knobs can be dialed to bring on some nice grit to mild crunch. Or I can get OD with a Menatone Red Snapper with single coils or humbuckers.

Mine is a 2 x 10, and the previous owner (who GAVE this amp to me) put a pair of alnico Tone Tubbies in. WOW!

Fact is, turned ALL the way up with a Les Paul or similar plugged in is freaking AMAZING! But it can get really great clean and edge of breakup stuff for sure...

I recently played a Fuchs Black jack 21 stack. It was simple and sound really good. quite loud for 21 watts. I currently play a Egnater tweaker. Not bad for a low end amp.

I love this photo, picnic. I happen to be in the process of designing and hopefully soon installing two walls worth of cabinetry and counter top in my home recording studio.

Do you have any photos that show more of that room? I like the appearance of the cabinets and drawers around your "cutout" for the amps. I'd love to see more..............

I'll take some and send them to you. The cabs were custom and installed in my old house about 5 years ago. When I did the reno on my new place last summer, I brought them with me. Nice to have the ability to roll the amps out or keep them hidden and safe from grandkids.

The 4 drawers above amp bays are for asst stuff. Strings, tubes, tools, etc. Above the drawers are 4 doors with 3 slots each for guitars, cases and boxes. Having all my gear 6 feet from my office desk doesn't help me get any work done, but sure makes the day go easier.
