I have an H3 bridge position in my Drop Top. BTW, it is beautiful thank you. It is mahogany with a maple cap. I am pondering going to an H2+ in the bridge position. I do play a bit heavier progressive stuff (Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Opeth etc.) but I feel like the H3 is really hitting the front of my amp (Mesa Mark V) hard and creates a bit of a brightness that I am not sure that I want. Can anyone give me an opinion between these 2 models?

Really?...I have an H3 in my HDTC(flamed maple on Alder/maple neck) and it doesnt cut like the H2+ in my other guitar...It is a darker pickup to my ears, thicker and bigger than the H2+ though...

Are you sure it's the pickup to blame? I've owned a bunch of Mark series Boogies and the V as well and i didn't care for it. I usually had the presence dialed way back or it had a shrill tone to it. And i play heavier stuff along with 80's metal. I've played guitar loaded with the H3 and never thought they were bright.

the same here , DT H3 and Road KIng II .
Sounds amazing , never too bright , if I dont want so .
Check the amp settings .
Also , roll down a bit Tone pot :D on your DT .
Difference between TAG's and mostly of other guitars is that TAG tone pot has a purpose

I would agree that the H3 is a darker warmer pickup that doesn't cut through the mix like the H2+. I just switched my H3 for an H2+ on my Cobra. H3 is more powerful obviously which might be better for hard rock or metal..
I actually have my H3 on the bay if anyones interested?

If you don't like the brightness of the H3 the H2+ is even brighter. The H2+ is snappier , crisper tone. I like it best FWIW.
Edit: Ok this post got me thinking, so I just dropped the H3 back in my HDT Classic. H3 is much smoother, legato and low mid heavy, I like it! You may want to look at the rest of your chain as far as brightness goes.

...sorry let me rephrase. I think the guitar is hitting the front of the amp hard. The H3 is pretty hot. Wish I could try an H2+ for a day. Tom, whatcha think?

..I am in South Carolina. I assume you think maybe going to Raleigh or Atlanta may do the trick? BTW, Tom, I love the guitar. RAAAAWWWK:D
