My HDT has the vintage tremolo that was available at the time of its construction in 1998. My Cobra S - built this year - has a newer style (hipshot?).

I really prefer the feel of the newer tremolo. Is it possible to install the new style bridge into the screw holes on the older guitar? My casual measurements show them to be more or less the same width apart. Anyone have any experience with this?

the 98 should be a gotoh and the baseplate on the new one is also a gotoh so the stud spacing is the same, and even the threads should be the same.
does the 98 have a thread in arm or push in?

It's threaded.

ok, then the new bridge is a slightly, 1/16" narrower spacing E to E, has a push in arm, a steel block instead of cast zinc, and the ferro glide saddles.

OK - can I buy one from you?

Before he lets you, it's a rule that you have to post a pic of the guitar for everyone to see... :D
