I wish I was playing a joke on you and that I dubbed over his original playing but... I'm not and it turns humor into something very sad. The positive is that if this guy can get work being a professional musician and he sounds like that than I know there is hope for ALL OF US!

Same here. The first is an obvious spoof video like the Malmsteen and Petrucci videos. I laughed til I cried the first time I saw those while my wife just shook her head.

actually no spoof. henry is very sweet guy but way on the outside musically. he does some bluesy slide stuff that is a bit more mainstream.

he actually got a government grant to make the DVD that I pulled these clips from. Hes the real deal. No spoof indeed.

Oops. I could have sworn that I saw some sound vs finger position problems in the first video.

That first clip kind of reminded me of the piano scene in the movie Greencard.

The back story is that Gerard Depardieu's character has 'fabricated' a life and relationship with Andy McDowell's character to be able to stay in the country and get a green card. To keep the INS from suspecting that their relationship isn't legit, they are meeting her family for the first time. So to avoid questions about why he doesn't currently have a job, he has told her (and she tells everyone) that he is a composer. Of course, someone decides that they'd like to see a little of what he's got.

Watch the whole clip for context, the action starts at about 1:30. It takes skill to play like this.

Henry used to play Klein Electrics. Way out there, indeed.

I'm sure he's a great guy, but the children are crying "Daddy, make the bad man stop!"

I did a bit of youtube research on him and indeed he is an interesting guy.

i think the 1st video should be titled "fingernails on a chalkboard".

It has been a long time since something made me cringe that bad.

I did listen to it all the way through. Unfortunately, somewhere around the three quarter mark I was forced to swallow back down my own vomit. ;)

What amazes me about this guy is that all these 'songs' are probably prepared and rehearsed to the point where he could do a near identical repeat performance. It doesn't strike me as someone doing random noodling.

I couldn't make it to a minute on either video.

He uses some strange "randomizing" effects, too. Keep that in mind. Check out the videos on Youtube where he's playing with Alexander Dumble.

To me it sounds like he is playing through a ring modulator on the first video. Back in the day these were found in analog synthesizers. Just did a quick google and it appears there are a variety of ring modulator stomp boxes out there.
