View Full Version : WhiteBox Engineering
I heard about a new company that makes custom speaker cabinets called WhiteBox Engineering. Mike Soldano recommended them. I guess he's friends with the guy that's starting WhiteBox or something. Anyhow, they are gonna make their official launch pretty soon. Might be pretty cool :) Check out their facebook page until then....

What kind of speakers/amps does everybody use here with their Andersons?

Looks interesting.
I'm using a Mesa/Boogie 2x12 rec cab for gigs. Home/recording I have an old Marshall 4x12 with tan backs.

Over the years I've used quite a few different amps. The last 2 years I've primarily used a Traynor YCS50. I'm liking it a lot and have no plans to switch soon. I also have a Sovtek MIG50 that I bought primarily to modify, but ended up leaving it as is. I have a Gibson GA-5 from about 1954 (use it to record sometimes). My one solid state amp is an Acoustic 150 bought in 1976 used (head still works, can't seem to blow it up). I've had a couple of Marshall's (JCM800) and Fender twins along the way. I've had Marshall and Acoustic cabs, but mostly have built my own. I used to always use single 10" spkrs in my own cabs. I developed a preference for them after a run of 12"s that didn't do it for me. Now that I'm using the YCS50 (single 12" combo) I'm questioning my preference for 10's.
i'm a low power user so i have several that i like a lot. reason bambino, /13 jrt 9/15, fulton webb 17, gabriel v18, all heads. for higher power i have my trusty mod 50, jackson britain and a couple old fenders. my clean test amp is a little boogie subway head that always sounds warm and clean. for grab and go combo i have a samamp vac25. mostly use the bogner cube with a c rex in it. lately enjoying the jackson port city cab with a cel gold in it.
too many amps.

I have gone through loads of amps, I have a Dr.Z Maz 18, a Swart Space Tone and the amazing Roland Microcube.
I really wanted to buy a Bambino, but by the time I shipped it over to the UK it was more than a Maz.
Anyway happy for now....
Very nice. I've been running a crazy amp switching setup that has me switching between a Soldano SLO100 and Mesa Triaxis/2:90 setup with each having their own Mesa RECTO 4x12 cab in a stereo kinda thing. Being that I'm not famous in a hugely successful band it definitely seems like overkill for a lot of shows haha but the variety of tones is amazing. Been thinking of running 2x12's and various ways of downsizing though.
I played a Mesa TransAtlantic head at Rockit Music and REALLY liked it. You can push the clean channel hard and get a very cool overdrive sound that, to me, sounds even cooler than the OD channel on the amp. Rockin :)
I want to experiment with more speakers for my setup. I've been using Mesa Recto cabs forever and really like them but I would like to try other stuff out. I've ran my SLO through a Marshall 1960a 4x12 and a Hughes & Kettner 4x12 but thought it didn't retain the mids & clarity as well as my Mesa cab did. I've heard some good things about Soldano and Bogner cabs as well as Orange cabs but those Orange cabs are deeper and weigh a ton! And there's the whole world of the speakers themselves (V30's, Greenbacks, ect...) that I'm very inexperienced in. Any advice on speakers/cabs I should try out? I play mostly heavy guitar tones with lots of mids, ala Chevelle or something similar.

I couldn't get into the Soldano cabs. Something about them that just didn't sound right. This was a long time ago and I don't think they had celestions in them. The SLO on the other hand rocks.... I remember gary moore using them and thought he was getting some of his best tones using that amp. Then Eddie used them for the F album.... Oh! the memories...
Sweet, they just launched their site today. Cool stuff. Check it out....
