View Full Version : Bulldog Inquiry
Curious about figured top selection for Bulldogs. Do the more traditional finishes typically get a more traditional looking top? This seems to be what I've seen so far.
we were originally buying more slab sawn wood thinking people wanted the vintage look. but noooo, people want fancier figure so we've been buying quartered wood which always makes the flame stand out more.
Is the slab stuff available by request?
we have a little of it, so yes.

Is this considered "slab"?

yes, you can see the year rings of the tree making swirlies(that's the technical name). quartered year rings are just straight stripes running the length of the body. with a carve top you will see a little deflection of the straight lines because of the depth of the carve.

Wow, and people don't like that? I would take that over even flame every time!
as would i, but that's not what we're seeing from dealers.
That's the one I was looking at. Was toying with the idea of that color with PQ pickups and a satin finish.

I've seen a lot of LPs lately with totally plain tops. I have to say, as much as I like the quilt on my Hollow Cobra and the flame on my Crowdster, for that kind of guitar, I'm not sure I wouldn't dig a pretty plain top.
i have an alder ct and love the simple look of the top.
