So, I got a nice Kirn tele this past week but when I opened the case up it was utter chaos.... Wood chips in the case, big dent in the lower bout, chips by the neck pocket and near the plate where the vol/tone knobs are. It got beat up pretty good. Ron Kirn told me to claim a total loss because it would cost more to fix properly than what I paid for the guitar. I'm a bit bummed but found out that often FedEx will ask for the total loss item but never pick it up. If that's the case, I might wind up with a guitar that seems playable but needs some fixin to get it looking halfway decent. So, who's the best repairman in the SoCal area for doing work on real nitro finishes and fixing dings/cracks? Thanks for the help in advance.

Wow! That's terrible! I never heard of a guitar getting that much damage from shipping. Now I've had one delivered with a busted headstock but this sounds much worse..... As far as the tech goes I couldn't help you since I'm on the other side of the country....Good luck with your situation...

try steve soest down orange county way. if he can't do it he'll know who can.
Thats way unfortunate. I'm sorry to hear that :( Anyway, Tom at trguitar.com/ is good. He fixed my Dimebag Darrell guitar when it fell very hard and split the neck from like the nut to the 12th fret (yikes!). Only thing with him is you only have a couple hour timeframe to call him since he changed his schedule to deal with working on repairs instead of dealing with customers.
Lately I've been going to Tim over at OC Guitar Works (www.ocguitarworks.com/) and have been very happy. His partner, Paul, is really good too. They are great with all guitars but experts in all things Fender and Fender-esque. Haven't had to do any major repairs (luckily) with them but they've setup my PRS and Tom Anderson better than ever. Really cool guys.
Tom is based outta Irvine/Tustin area and Tim & Paul outta Lake Forest/Laguna Hills area. Hope that helps out!
Good luck!

Thanks guys! I'll have to see what happens with FedEx. If I do wind up with the guitar I'll probably take it to Steve Soest. Thanks for that tip Tom!

Scott Lentz is a master with nitro finishes and wood repairs. I think he is still taking in repairs even though his own guitars are gaining a national (international?) reputation. He does have a reputation for being s l o w but the work will be top notch.
