I recently acquired 2 classics. One has a rosewood fretboard alder body and black floyd rose and the other has a maple fretboard swamp ash body and chrome floyd. The maple/chrome floyd has a metallic plinky sound to it acoustically. the black floyd has a warmer sound. Is it the combination of the floyd finish and fretboard? Does NOT affect the guitar's performance I can hear a significant difference. Would changing the saddles to black (coated) make a difference?
are both floyds floating?
do they have the same string gauge?
i could see ash getting described as plinky compared to alder. it's missing some middle by comparison, add the maple neck and they would be pretty different sounding guitars.
then i would look at the spring set up.

Both purchased new with same guage strings setup from you all. I did not remove the trem cover to check springs. I assume that you all set them the same !! If so do you think it is due to the string contact on the black coated saddles vs the chrome?

I would name one "plinky" for sure...
see above comments about the wood difference. it's the wood, or maybe a glandular problem?
