Hey guys. Been out of guitar playing for a few years now but getting back into it. Just ordered a Classic thru Jack at Magdon.

I went with the VA pickups which I used to like previously pretty well. But then I started reading up on some newer stuff that's come out since I've been away.

How do you guys like the new SC pickups? Are they something beyond for example the old SA as far as vintage tones? Or they more modern like an SA maybe?

And how about the HC2? I understand that is more like a vintage inspired humbucker?

VA booster kicks them all up a notch?

Thanks for any help. Trying to decide if I want to stick with the VA and deal with the noise or go quiet. Been so long since I've played anything, I kinda have a clean slate here honetly so I'm game to try something.

I have an alder classic with SCs and an ash classic with VAs. The SCs are really excellent and usually draw positive comments from other players. They preserve the highs quite well. I think of them as a vintage single coil sound with the tone knob rolled off slightly and a bit more authority in the upper mids. The one thing they don't do that well is the "nasty/icepick" highs, but a lot of people don't like those anyway. The highs on the SCs are very friendly to the ear. (As for the comparison to SAs, I've only heard SAs in the music store, but I'd say SCs are much closer to VAs than SAs.)

The VA booster is (as I think the website says somewhere) more a color change than a boost. You probably won't notice the difference in volume unless you're already _right_ on the edge of the amp getting dirty. You probably will notice the change in EQ.

I played a Drop Top with those pickups and thought they sounded fantastic.
