I read on his Facebook page that Delta Airlines broke his Gibson Les Paul JB # 52 this week on an overseas flight to OZ.
He said he is very bummed, it was one of his favorites.
I took that flight in January, and they almost broke me in half too.
Joe is an awesome player, and a good guy too. I have met him twice, very nice young gentlelan.
I mentioned TAG's, and he said he likes a guitar that gives him a fight.
I geuss that takes our favorite, Tom Anderson Guitars, out of the running!

LP Guitar = waiting to have a horrible headstock accident...

It's why I'll probably never have one again.

I have met him a few times and he is one gear head. No doubt a TA has been in his hands.

Les Paul's are famous for headstock accidents. I had one, and a "friend" dropped it. Snapped the headstock right off.

If you put a LP style guitar next to a Strat, you can see the huge 17 degree angle, and the tension it places on the neck. Add the soft mahogany wood, and it's just waiting to explode. I have a Gibson SG Classic, with P-90's, and it's a good one. I handle it like an egg. For $799 brand new, it was a deal.
I also have 6 TAG's too, so he doesn't see a lot of action!
Nice to have the P-90's available, especially for recording.

After I bought my LP Standard, I came across this interesting site: http://www.edroman.com/rants/les_paul_necks.htm.

I do not know if it is just a rant by someone trying to sell their own brand or if he has a good point but I found it interesting to read. I also take everything I read with a grain of salt.

Would be curious to know if anyone has visited this store and if the article makes sense from the point of view of an unbiased luthier.

Regardless, I still enjoy taking the Les Paul Off the wall every now and then.

Regards,
Dave

Ed Roman is a very interesting character. He definitely has his own opinions about a lot of things. Mostly I take his rants with a grain of salt. Bought a guitar from his store ONCE.

Yeah, I went into Ed's store in LV once.
Not what I would call "warm and fuzzy" feeling.
His rant about LP neck and body design is interesting, but come on.
It is what it is.
I own 3 Les Pauls ('78 Standard, 2007 '59 Reissue, and a 2008 Chambered 1960 Reissue Cloud 9), and I love them all.
The '78 I bought new as a senior in High School (paid $563 of very hard-earned dishwashing money). I played the hell out of that guitar in college, and NO cracks or issues with the neck or headstock. And that was back before I considered guitars "vintage". It was a utility instrument and I wasn't super careful with it or any of my guitars.
Any guitar, IMHO, will suffer damage if it is abused or falls off a guitar stand onto a stage.
Sheesh.

I don't get the whole "I want to fight my guitar" or "I only play guitars that are difficult to play" thing...

I'm going to see JB tomorrow night in Red Bank. The stage will be its own gearfest.

My friend called up said he has two extra tickets if anyone local wants to go. If you are interested, give me a call and I can put you in touch with him 732 9963295 Pete
