I thought I had this figured out. Been working with Brian at Charley's, as usual, but thought I would get more opinions. I have a classic, 10-16-08n, that I custom ordered, but I have since changed the H2+ to a HF2 (SF1,SF1,HF2, switcheroo). Also had a Cobra with HCs that I mistakenly sold a few months ago.
Here's the basics that Brian an I specced out: solid droptop in burnt orange, maple/alder, rosewood board, even taper, heavy frets, HF2-HF1, Cobra switching, VA booster, recessed Floyd Rose.
If I add a SF in the middle, can I get the switch wired 1. bridge full hum, 2. bridge/middle, 3. bridge/neck full hum, 4. neck/middle, 5. neck full hum, pull tone to master split? I never use the middle pup alone. I played a DT there that had a 3 way mini toggle, seemed to be normal/boost/split. Is it possible to do that and pull splits middle only?
If I get HCs instead of HFs, how hard is it to remove the covers if I decide I like HFs better?
Is a 1 and 5/8 nut narrower all the way up the neck? And, can I get a little under size on even taper? I normally like bigger necks, and my classic is happy medium +.30, and it's the smallest neck I have. I'm learning to shred for my midlife crisis, and these bigger necks are killing my short fingers.:D
My dream would be a floyded Cobra, or a short scale DT, but I know that won't happen, so I'm trying to get the best set up for me.

These two ideas would have more viability than a painted headstock on a maple neck :)
You dont git what you don't ask... ;)

Even though I read in another thread that Tom was open to the Short DT idea, my guess would be that it wouldn't be offered with a Floyd. I asked Tom about a Floyd Atom or Cobra some time back and I remember him saying that Floyds and short scales are not a good match.
You specs sound great though! I have a Mahogany/Maple Drop Top with an HC3 in the bridge and HC1 in the neck and love it! The VA Booster is a must-have in my book! Great little device! Not sure if I'd try to pull the covers off of the HCs though. I'd rather order some HFs and simply swap them out. Has the big advantage that you can go back and forth if you want to experiment a bit...
And as for Enrico:
the no floyd on the cobra is because of the mahogany neck, if we ended up with a short dt it could have a floyd i think.
as for switching, normally the hsh setup with the 3 way mini switch does boost/humbucking/split. if you don't want boost, you could have the 5 way you described and a split on the tone pot for both humbuckers. or you could use a mini switch to split w/o the boost. the pp can only do 2 pickups. but you may not get vintage voicing if the pp does the split, there's only so many contacts on that thing. the mini switch allows for better choices.
all the necks are the same width at the body, so the smaller nut width tapers to the same place. not sure what you're asking for in size, there's already a big difference between a hm+.03 and an et.
i would not advise taking the cover of an hc, we have to bevel the top plate of the coils to make them fit.

Thanks Tom. I do want the boost, and I would give up splits for it. Could I get a middle pup and have the middle position on the 5 way give me neck/bridge combo? I love the bridge/middle combo on my classic without split, so splits are not a must for me.
I played an even taper, and I think I might like to go a little smaller, like around .790 or so.
So the short DT floyd might happen? I would wait for that. The short scale is much easier on my hands for the 5-6 fret sretches I play now. I think regular even taper would be perfect on a short scale.

I would love to be the guinea pig on a short scale classic or DT:D :D
maple over alder/mahog, vintage sunburst, HSH (HF1, SF1, HF2 or 3), even taper + 0.050, med frets, locking tuners, classic trem, v boost, 5 way, pull adds bridge (no split needed or floyd). Supreme commander or son of commander would have final say on woods/etc for best Anderson product.:) :) :)
Unless there is a cobra S out there with HSH option (I've never seen one)
mike, with the boost and 3 way mini you'd get all you're after, and we could make the middle be neck and bridge.
we can do et -.020".
i think we would do the short dt, but not the classic for now.

Thanks Tom. Short DT would be awesome. Looks like I need to make a trip to Dallas next week!

Anyone have pics of jack's pacific blue on a flame top? Plenty of quilt pics.

ey Mike,
Peruse through the Guitar of the Week Archives and I know there are a few Jacks Blue guitars (starting ~SEP 2007?) in there.

Without seeing one in person, this would be your best bet with visualizing the this blue. With all the beautiful blue variations Anderson offers, Roy (maybe) -The GOTW webmaster extraordinaire (just one of his roles) :)
