View Full Version : Reversing ball end when restringing

I have a question about stringing my guitar:

I use mostly Floyd Rose bridges. Rather than cut the ball off (ouch) the end, I use it to secure the string in the headstock / tuner.

It certainly reduces the time it takes to string it up. But...

Though I've never had issues using this method (intonation or damage to the tuners), I tend to treat the Andys more delicately.

So, I'm wondering about your opinions about the downside? Can you give me a reason not to string my Andys this way?

well.. i tend to use as many winds as possible (not all the way down), so in case i break right at the bridge, i can whip off a few winds, and still use the string. could probably do the same that way, i dont really see a downside... other than looking goofy :)

I've done this for years with my Floyd-equipped guitars and haven't had a problem. I use a few winds with it, though, so I could still do what Dave suggests, and unwind a bit to accommodate a bridge break.
