shaving the neck down

hi there
if one reduced the size of the neck towards the higher frets ( the neck is a 60's vibe neck ) would it greatly affect the tone and the buzz feiten tuning system ?

material removal can affect the straightness of a neck, when you change the shape it stress relieves some. so it may be a good idea to redress frets if much of a change is made. if it's a mild change it might not even be noticeable. also, on our larger necks we do set the rod deeper so if you go too far you'll get to see the rod, very bad. will you hear a tone change? not likely unless you removed a lot. tuning system would not be affected unless setup changed then it would just be re doing the intonation.

i didn't mean to scare you off, if you want it just a bit smaller that's not a problem. just don't turn a 6o's vibe into an even taper.
