What do you Anderson players think of removing the backplate from tremelo equipped guitars?
Personally I allways take this plate off.
I think the overall sound of the guitar is a little different, more open, ... and also looks cool :D
Played unplugged there's a little bit more volume.
Artist signature guitars like the Fender John Mayer, and the PRS Santana, are without backplates, even without holes for the screws.
They must feel the same way about this, i guess.
Are there ever been custom orders for TA guitars without screwholes and backplate?
I'm looking out for other peoples opinion.

I've compared on a couple guitars and hear absolutely no diff.

So I leave them on.

I have guitars with and without, but I never really gave it much thought.

I would imagine that the springs for the trem would vibrate better if not dampened by you body, which would happen with the plate on, but I would think that it would be pretty subtle.

The other reason for some pro players wanting no plate might be for ease of maintenance like adjustments to the claw and string changes.

I prefer it without but not because of the sound but because I found it easier to change the strings.

I think the notion of the plate making a guitar sound different is imaginary.

I don't really have an opinion here. I've never taken the time to experiment and see if I could hear a difference with the trem plate on versus off on any of my guitars.

I wonder if Tom has an opinion????? :)

when we started we didn't put plates on but it was solely for making it easy to get to what's inside. the downside of course if you have a floating trem is that your clothes can get caught on it or you belly or belt can make notes go flat or sharp. i think if you were listening acoustically to the guitar it would sound different with more stuff coming off the back, but i'd be surprised if the pickups were hearing anything differently.
