Maybe this has already been hashed out but here goes:
Assuming otherwise identical specs how will a regular Atom compare to a Cobra sound-wise? The only difference would be body shape - right?

This is just my two cents, but I don't think they sound the same, even with the same pickups. Yes, both are mahogany, both 24.75" scale, but the single-cut body on the Atom gives it a lot more brightness to my ears.

I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people who will chime in.

the bridge setup is also very different. with the neck angle of the atom the feel changes quite a bit too.
i'll let others speak about tones.

to me, the cobra has a bit more zing on the top end where the atom is more middle focused. when i made the switch from cobra to atom the sound guys said i was cutting through better.

Well I am IN LOVE with the sound of my Atom - especially distorted. It pairs so sweetly with my modded Marshall. The shape of of my drop top is just a bit more comfortable against my bony ribs though - the cutout is deeper. I was wondering if I could get the Atom sound with the drop top comfort in a Cobra S. But it seems like it wouldn't be quite the same.

The answer is clear! Eat more Pasta! I agree that the shape of the Cobra is insanely comfy, but I'm no tso thin anymore so the lack of a cutout on my Crowdster doesn't make much difference.

I've bought and sold many a TAs since about 93', tried an Atom recently, was my not COT., but damn that Cobra continues to impress.. my fav'
