...yeah, I'm supposed to be one... but...

Tom (or bruce or anybody), Is there any reason that locking tuners wouldn't work well on a Crowdster? I wonder if the way the strings wrap around 2 or 3 times helps the tone or something? It's just I have a set of chrome Anderson locking tuners from when I converted my Hollow Cobra to Gold, and changing strings with locking tuners is so much easier. Do you ever put lockers on a Crowdster?

we don't normally use them. my only hesitation is that bronze strings may, and i only say may, tend to break the wrap wire easier from the clamping since it is a more brittle metal. if you have them you could easily give them a try and report back.

I would be pleased as punch to be the guinea pig and will report back! I'll probably swap 'em out next string change and then track it for a few months.

I'll be interrupted in late January when I ship my guitar to you for the "=2"-ization...

Update on my expiriment.

The guitar stays in tune no better and I hate these things on acoustic strings.

So there you have it.

So... I want to swap them out next time I change strings... but it'll be simultaneous with the "+2-ization" of my Crowdster that will happen when I send it to you, Tom, at the end of this month.

If I include the regular tuners, can you swap them out before you put strings back on? I do NOT mind if you charge me for the time.

Or... I could ship the guitar stringless, but I've been made to believe that is a BAD idea.

just send the tuners and we'll swap them, no biggie. i too do not like for guitars to sit stringless any longer than they need to.

...I hate these things [locking tuners] on acoustic strings...Can you elaborate? What did you not like?

The strings took forever to stretch out and settle, it was like they worked WORSE with the lock than without, I'm talking about the wrapped string here.

Also, I could be batty, but I think the strings sound better when they wrap around the post twice and you can't do that with the locking tuners.

Plus, it was no easier to change them.

next time, I'll simply listen to Tom and do what he says.
