Hi,

I am thinking of changing my Strings from 10-46 to 9-42 on my Drop Top Classic (09-18-95A) Will I have to get the guitar setup again ?

If you have a floating trem, then definitely yes.

If you want the guitar to be it's very best, then definitely yes.

Interesting topic Treva ,
I also do like to play with strings brand replacing or with different gauges until I find the best set up for specific axe (but always comeback to Elixir 9-46  )

I am wondering how many of you guys play with the set up's on Andersons ?
Or you keep the same original strings and thus factory set up forever ,what is actualy what I intend to do . Don't fix it if isn't broken .
But.....These days I find the latest perfect set up for my Ibanez Steve Vai 7vwh after refreting with SS jumbo frets .
This is about Elixir Nano # 9-49 (everything the same as in 9-46 set , just replaced #46 with #49 )
I'll do that on my new TAG as well (set up is #9-46 ) , so I hope shouldn't be a big deal to change just one string with out messing around with original set up ?
What do you think ?
Thanks,
Zoran

You MUST, in many climates, adjust the truss rod every now and again (SMALL MOVES).

But yes, I mess with my setups on all my guitars. Of course, I replaced the bridge on my Hollow Cobra with a Fishman PowerBridge (The Anderson one) and so I HAD to do my own setup. Used a DT7. No problems.

My Crowdster, thankfully, came set up for .011s. Usually they come set up for 12s, but I use 11 so I haven't had to mess with it. One or two tweaks of the truss rod over 3 years is all.

Pietro is right on about adjusting the neck. That is a must do unless the temp and humidity where you live is a constant 365 days a year.

And Bruce, who obviously knows better than just about anybody, is right, that if you want it perfect, you should check and adjust from time to time.

That said, I find that on my Non Anderson guitars, the length and height adjustment screws on the bridge are easily knocked around a bit during string changes and cleaning. Like most I just cut all the strings off for a changing. So I do a quick check after each string change. Might need a tiny tweak. Might not. But sometimes they do, and I don't want to find out too late. I find that nearly 100% of the time on Andersons the screws don't move. Far better quality bridge components is what I would attribute that to.
