So I am planning to order another TAG come the new year and have spec'd my new guitar down to everything but what paint style/color I should get.
This is what I want:
HDTC
-Maple Neck rosewood fretboard
-Quilted Maple on Alder
-pups - SC1 SC1 SC3
-The rest isnt real important for my question.
What are your favorite finishes for this body style? I also plan to keep the headstock natural and of course it has a pickguard so thats matching, etc. You get it. So far I am either going with Tobacco Fade or Cherry Burst but wanna know what you all like.
thanks
Chris

All of TAG's finishes are beautiful, but my favorites are Desert Sunset and Dark Cherry Burst.
The regular cherry burst looks really bright to me, and I'm trying very hard not to be noticed, at least visually, so I went with the dark cherry burst for my "red guitar". TAG's Dark Cherry Burst looks fantastic with the quilted maple top - the darker red really makes the amber middle area pop.

I agree with you. Both of my current TAGs have a darker finish (Tobacco Burst on my Atom CT and Tom might be able to help me out with my Cobra, my serial # isnt spec'd on the site, but its a solid mahogany body with a dark finish still).
Tom paints some of the most beautiful guitars I've seen I just dont know whats right for me. Do you have photos of how your Dark Cherry came out? thats another choice I had in mind.

I love the look of a 3-colour burst with a tortoiseshell pickguard. It looks gorgeous with a maple/rosewood neck.

That's a pretty sweet combo.
Mine has the wood combination you want, except I have an African rosewood board.
That colour is stunning, I'd prefer a black 'guard though.
Reminds me of Luke's 80's valley Arts without the stupid Floyd :D :D

I went ahead and photoshopped a black pickguard and I see what you're saying about the black pickguard. I really like this too.

I also, while getting to the solid black, came across this black tortoiseshell hybrid that I like a lot.

Tom, is this black tortoiseshell mix a possibility or is this wishful thinking?

And yes, that combo does look great on a Classic. Definitely black pick guard though. :)
I still think plain black :D
Yep stupid Floyd, never seen the point of one and they dictated the tone of every guitar I played with one fitted. ( purely from my tonal and style needs of course :D )

I like that black tortoiseshell because I've never seen it. I think it'd be more unique that way. But I agree with all of you, I like the black better than even the reg tortoiseshell

so I think I have come to my decision on which finish I will get. :D :D
this with be a HDTC btw

This is "Cherry Burst"
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f101/resister576/06-14-08N_full_w_Jesse.jpg
and this is "Dark Cherry Burst"
according to Tom's site these are 2 different finishes but they look the same, however this is the finish that I want on a HDTC with a white pickguard, alder body quilted maple top, rosewood on maple neck. I originally wanted it without bindings but with this finish I think its a must. I only wish there were better pics of the HDTC and that finish...
What'd you guys think?
the dark cherry burst is just darker on the very edge. that dtc pic looks a little too dark. you can see that the center color is a little more amber than yellow.

Thanks for the pic, Strat56. I think I like the cherry burst better... this is such a tough decision tho.

For "earthy" tones, I love Tobacco Fade:

(from the Magdon Music website)
Though for an HDTC, I am partial to brighter colors:

Both my current TAGs are more darker tones, more earthy tones and I am thinking getting something a little brighter. I do like the tobacco fade tho.

Personally I don't think that "earthier" colors like cherry burst, honey burst, tobaccco etc go that well with pickguards.
For a maple top with pickguard I would prefer trans red, Sweet & sour red, Bora bora blue etc.

I think Tobacco Fade for sure!!!

the tobacco fade with a black pickguard is pretty sexy. I have been contemplating with having such beautiful wood grain and an astonishing color do I really wanna hide some of it behind a pickguard? HDTC or HDT?
more question I have been asking myself.

Just keep collecting them each time in a different color :)
