In my never ending quest for affordable IEMs I followed a lead that someone gave me and went to Target, of all places, and purchased a set of Skull Candy Asym ear phones. Up to this point I have been using Shure and for the last year Livewires. Livewires price is good for custome fit and the sound is very clear (almost to a fault), but thier lack of bass is noticeable. So one the way to my sons baseball game I stopped at a Target and picked up a black set of Asyms ($40).
The fit of the Asyms are very nice, comfortable and they lock in the ear really good, the cable comes over the ear like the Livewires. I used an Ipod to compaire the Livewires ($250), a set of Bose ($100), and the Asyms ($40). With the same song, same settings I swapped out the ear phones starting in the order above, the Asyms blew the others away. The Asyms are loud, like the Livewires, and required the volume to be brought down to a pain free level, but the bass is so much richer and meatier.
I can't wait to give them a try in a live situation.
