Tom, which neck humbucker will give me that classic PAF sound, or close to it? Will it split well? I'm thinking sonically along the lines of Hiram Bullock or Mike Stern. What do you think?
depends what it's going in. the HC1 would be the choice if it's a fairly bright guitar, HC1- if it's darker and you want it on the cleaner side. the uncovered HF's have just a touch more top end.
forgot about splitting. the 1 will split a bit better. the weaker hb's get, the more out of balance the splits become.

So would splitting the pickup be a good option, or would the kickback option work on these humbuckers to give a fuller single coil sound? Thinking of going HF1-sf1-HF2 in a H-S-H configuration on my current guitar in a few months. What do you think?
on hsh guitars we have still been doing the split option. on the double hb guitars we have been dong series parallel and i like that a lot for live use. parallel is not quite as bright as split(which is sometimes too bright with weaker pickups), but it cuts really nice and no hum is a bonus. with 3 pickups you have a little less switching capacity to get fancier, but you could do series/parallel of two pickups with a 4 pole switch and get all humcancelling sounds.
