View Full Version : Anderson Discounts?

Hello all,
I don't own any Anderson guitars yet, but I am interested, and have started looking around. My question is what sort of discounts do most dealers offer on a new instrument? I just bought a PRS this week, and I got it for 42% under list price. If I special order an instrument, can I assume that will be discounted as well? My apologies if this is common knowledge, but I haven't really bought any "boutique" guitars before, just things like Gibson, Fender, and PRS.
Thanks,
Brad

I can't answer specifically for Tom, but in my experience, boutique gear rarely gets deep discounts like production gear. Since Fender and Gibson make half a million guitars a year, they can afford to sell to a dealer at 60% off of list and the dealer can afford to sell at a price that makes them 20% in profit.
Unfortunately, smaller shops for custom guitars, amps, and effects don't have that luxury. I think you'll probably see prices closer to 20-25% off of list on boutique gear.

I agree. 42% off is pretty stiff. I was in retail for a while. Normally you get that because the store needed to move it.
An unwritten but very carefully followed rule on this forum is we do not speak good or bad about specific music dealers. Jack from Magdon Music runs this forum for free. So we follow that rule out of respect for him. That said I think you will find Jack's Anderson prices to be spot on fair and competive, and really all the dealers are the same in terms of fair and competive prices. TAG does a superb job of selecting dealers that represent their core values.
The short is, in the US you will get a decent break off list, and a really fair price, even if you spec, from an authorized Anderson dealer.

Hey Brad,
I just realized you are the same Brad from the Z forum. Mike is careful about his dealers too. I think your TAG dealer will offer a similar experience. Or just bid for a mission that takes you to MDT and scoot up to Magdon!

I've only seriously priced Andersons on three occasions (only bought on one).
Magdon's prices were totally fair.
Check out his stock.
