Hi,
I love the look of your guitar. I have owned Cobras and Hollow Cobras in the past, with the traditional H-H configuration. The tone was a little too mid focused for my taste. I am wondering how the M's sound? Can you describe? Do the lighten, brighten and widen the sound spectrum on the Cobra?

Thanks,
Brent

Brent,

There are numerous descriptions for the sounds of the M pickups in the forum. Most recently by OKSTRAT. You may also want to check the TAG site for the description of the pickups for more direct specifications.

They essentially lay in between P90's and humbuckers. More closely to humbuckers but not as thick. Hopefully this helps.

Like P90's without the hum. I can still get some quack out of the three PUP HCS I have.

With read of a couple of GOTW write ups I was convinced that this P/U set up was the call if you are looking for a huge tonal variety.

My recent hollow cobra was ordered with a similar P/U config and it certainly delivers to Roy's description:

"...And then I have what I call, “THE GUITAR!” It is a Cajun Red, Hollow Cobra setup with a humbucker in the bridge and two M1, M-Series pickups in the neck and middle. I can get about 11 different tones out of that guitar from “Telecaster” to “Les Paul!” Also, I am able to switch the pickups to, I think, about 10 different settings. I can split the bridge pickup with every combination, or not, as I wish. There is one setting I really like that I cannot get on a “Strat.” I split the bridge humbucking and combined it with the front mini. So you have a single coil sound from the bridge as well as a single coil sound from the neck. It is very warm and organic—very vintage “Strat” sound—or as I simply call it, “The Anderson Guitar Sound.”

"...Tim gave a quick call to the Anderson Sonic Support Center. After a short personal musical profiling session, he understood that although full-sized humbuckers are wonderful at delivering a characteristically saturated and aggressive midrange timbre, this was not the predominate personality he wanted his new guitar to feature. He saw clearly now that his desire was to have huge single coil tones effortlessly bounding forth to substantially fill their place in the mix, and also be able to occasionally cross over into humbucker-land when needed. This is certainly M-Series territory! And Tim was not the least bit disappointed to learn that all this could be accomplished while canceling 60-cycle hum.

He chose to mate the M1s in the neck and middle positions with an M2 at the bridge to give a perfectly balanced output when flipping between neck and bridge positions. Incorporating a 5-Way switching system specifically designed for M-outfitted guitars also puts an Add-Bridge Push/Pull switch and Master Bridge-Splitter mini toggle at your fingertips for 11 very useable combinations. To further insure that this will be Tim’s go-anywhere-and-do-anything axe, he requested a Powerbridge piezo system be incorporated into each bridge saddle allowing excellent plugged-in acoustic guitar sounds to be blended with the already earthshaking electrics or to stand alone. ".”

The new owner of this beautiful Tortoise Cobra is going to be one estatic camper!
