I have a couple of National Resophonics that I bought last year, and am still trying to find the right strings!! The folks at National Resophonic recommend various sets of John Pearse strings.

Here is info on the strings that National uses on their resonator guitars;

I've experimented a bit with heavier strings than recommended, as I like the heavier strings for slide. But, I'm no expert, and am still in search of my prefered strings. I recently tried some Martin Bluegrass strings for resonator, and broke two consecutive 3ed strings when trying to go to open D tuning......:mad:

Maybe someone else has some experience, and will educate us???

Broke the G also trying to go open D

It's a damn conspiracy!! :eek:

I need to look to be sure that there isn't a burr at the string hole on the tuning rod on the slot head. Both times the G string broke right near where the string goes into the string hole.

I believe that the thrid string in Open D tuning, is tuned to F sharp.

I use a Turbo Tuner ST-122 to bring the guitar to proper tuning.

i don't see why you should be breaking a string tuning down to a pitch.
