Noodling on my Drop Top Classic today, I found a dead spot when I bend the high E string to a certain point. When I don't bend that string, all notes on all frets resonate just fine. When I bend it (up higher on the fretboard), it resonates, and then as I continue to bend, it hits a complete dead spot. I may try simply changing that string, but I think this sounds more like a fret issue.

Any thoughts? I'm going to have to get creative in one of our songs tonight... haha.

those are almost always string issues. is the note just dieing or sizzling? if this is the floyd guitar check to make sure the string is in the clamp block nice and straight.

This is the Plum Drop Top Classic. No floyd. I'll change the string and see if that fixes it! :)

Hey I don't mean to hijack the thread. But your guitar did sound cool on the CMT awards!

And Kellie did look hot in that silver dress!

Hey thanks!! I thought the mix turned out good! =) I love these new pickups I had Tom put in. I replaced the humbuckers with HFs. Killer!

How does a "bad string" lead to areas of the neck where the string frets out??

strings can get small almost un noticeable kinks in them making one note ring poorly. i've seen plenty of brand new strings do it just because of how the were handled when would up for packaging, or unwound by the customer. i've seena single note be unplayable with all the rest working fine.

Thanks, Tom. I didn't know that.

i can't tell you how many times people have had "fret" issues that were solved by a string change, even when they said"but they're brand new strings!".

Most of the strings I break are from BRAND NEW sets. Usually a few seconds after putting them on.
