View Full Version : Why don't we see any MSS as opposed to HSS Classics?

I've been thinking about changing out an SSS pickguard with something new and it occurred to me that you just don't see any with an MSS configuration. You see lots of HSS but I don't really want all the power and non-single coil tone of a HB. I have owned a couple Andersons with MMM and I love them so I wonder how a M3, VA7, VA7 w/Kickback would sound. Of course, this would also let me try out the new VA7s too.
Do you do any of these, Tom? If not, why don't you think you do? Seems like a great, versatile set of pups and seems the MSS would complement each other well.

Wonder if the SF's, since they are noise canceling, would sound better in that config? If you have not tried the SF's yet they are quite nice too!

That's a great idea. It would be wonderful to have silent operation all around.

Tom, do you have any thoughts on this? I'm really curious because it seems like a good idea for added oomph without the whole HB thing and I've never seen it.
perfectly logical. i've been in a bit of a "hb is too much" thing lately myself. i might be inclined to do the M2 as it's a closer match in character to the singles while still being bigger sounding. the m3 is getting pretty close to full size territory.

Yea, you know, I have had M2 and M3 and the M3 does get very HB-ish but with more cut. I was thinking that, with a Kickback switch on an M3, I might get the best of both worlds. I don't know, maybe the M2 is the way to go because I do tend more toward being an SC lover.
Have you done any these combos?
just did a hollow t classic with TF1 and TM2. pretty great sounds and a good match together. haven't done any classics that way but i don't see any reason not to. especially if you're looking for something a little bigger than a single coil in the bridge and want to retain the singles in the neck and middle.
