received a complimentary subscription from the Music Zoo...it's basically Esquire/GQ meets GuitarWorld...IMHO, not really 'worth' it for the guitar content. that said, if you're into expensive guitars, Camacho cigars, Aston Martins, and wish to see St. Helena (Napa)...then this is your kind of mag..

It is cool to see that Tom Colichio is a guitar guy. I knew there was something else about him that I liked. My wife and I are addicted to Top Chef. Knowing that Colichio is into guitars, makes me like the show even more. This does NOT mean that I am now into Steven Seagal movies, even though his taste in vintage guitars is impeccable. :D
we got the mag at the shop too and it is definitely for the rich and/or famous.

I've been searching for a quality guitar rag aimed at the poor, unknown, and ugly.

One of the mags that I've recently enjoyed reading is Guitarist, a UK publication. It is a bit spendy.... about $125 for an annual subscription.
I'm impressed by the publication though....

:p LOL! +1
In all seriousness, I read Vintage Guitar and Tone Quest. None of the others I've sampled do much for me.
Premier Guitar Magazine is pretty good. There seems to be ads from guitar manufacturers and such not usually seen in Guitar Player.

Whoa- what's wrong with Napa? For those of us who live up here in Wine Country, there is a whole lotta guitar up here. How about the Healdsburg Guitar Festival? Mesa Boogie? Klein? Furman? Alembic? and on and on.
Besides the great cycling weather all year round. and some real, normal, non-wealthy folks do just fine here, thank you very much!

absolutely nothing's wrong with Napa, and never said there was. in fact we consume so much of their product output that I feel like I'm part of the NoCal family (have investment property in Marin Co anyway). so to clarify, it appeared to me as if the mag's 'selling' a lifestyle that's exclusive to very few - aiming towards a demographic (via product advertising) that is rarely considered to be the 'core' guitar consumer. IMHO guitars are an instrument of the masses, to be enjoyed by all. seemed like an oxymoron have a 'guitar lifestyle' mag where camachos, A Martins, and late-night studios at the Sunset Marquee are the norm. IMHO 'guitar lifestyle' = stories featuring Suriel's guitar tech, stories from the road, or resolving FOH issues related to mic'ing/achieving optimal guitar tones in various venues while dealing with groupies :)

Well, I was being somewhat tongue in cheek there, but that was a great answer. I grew up in Marin, so I am wondering where and why someone would invest in overpriced real estate there.... but since I am on the verge of buying 4 acres in Sonoma Co. I best keep my big trap shut, eh.
Now, about those groupies.......

belvedere, and since we've had it since the late 50's, no overpricing on our end, just an accretive R/E investment:cool: as dad calls it, "the only spot in marin that die-hard republicans can call home"
