Spring or shaft on Crowdy

Just got my Tiger eye Crowdy and noticed the string guide at the peg-head is mounted to a shaft instead of a spring like on my other Crowdy. Any advantages or comments on either design?

we've gone back and forth. we started using the springs years ago because they were not consistant with the size of the spacer they supplied. mostly they were too short. we used and still use the spring because we could adjust them to where ever we wanted them. when they do send the longer spacer, we use them because they work good. if they consistantly keep shipping us the long spacer, the spring will probably go away.
