View Full Version : Brass Block ?????
From my earlier thread It seems that the trem is closest to the Gotoh 1055 !
I'm happy with Tom's reassurance on the posts.. thanks Tom
I have found a company that makes a brass block for the trem and will make an identical one to fit the Anderson Fishman bridge, inc the push in arm.
My PRS and Musicman both have brass blocks so i'm tempted to try one.. anyone got an opinion ??
Tom , please feel free to share your expertise again
i would suspect that if you replace the steel block on the fishman with a brass one, you'll get a bit duller tone if that's what you're after.
I'd have expected an improvement.
Bells are made from Brass, so shouldn't it make the tone stronger ?
tone is such a subjective thing that i don't think there are too many things that are absolute across all boundaries. there is very little en energy in an electric guitar's string being struck. a clanging bell is quite a different thing with quite a different frequency response.

I wonder what a bell made out of titanium would sound like?
I've ordered a brass block, sent them my steel one to copy.
Will post my impresions when it returns.
I've done 400 gigs on my Anderson so far , so i know it's tone very well, I'll easily notice any difference. :D
i think a titanium bell would sound really expensive, but it would be light.
I think you are right, Tom.
:D
My Brass blocks are ready and on their way.. look fantastic don't they.

The only problem I have is that I damaged the bridge posts and new ones are not available anywhere.
Gotoh make some but I'm told they're not hardened and are rubbish.. I'm totally frustrated.
Anyway, I'll post my findings when I get the guitar together.
we've used the "rubbish" for 20 years and not had to replace any.
doesn't the 1055 have an arm module above the baseplate?
Tom, I have e mailed you regarding my damaged posts and you've informed me that identical replacements are not available.
The only ones that are, I'm told are rubbish, not my existing ones, hence my frustration.
I sent the block away to be copied and I'm very impressed with the results.
the gotoh replacements, which should be called the originals that fishman copied, are what we have used without issue for 25 years. the fishman only was a several year period around the early 90's.
how can I tell what's on mine ?
If it has the fishman bridge, will it also have the fishman posts ?
serial number is 03-13-05M
:D
we used fishman studs with fishman bridges. gotoh studs with gotoh bridges.
Based on your e mail I have ordered Gotoh studs from Allparts.
I understand the inserts need to be changed too and my tech says it's a simple job, so hopefully I'll have a happy ending very soon.
I'll post ( no pun !! ) my findings of the new new block with some pics soon.
Tom, thanks very much indeed for your advice, my Drop Top's done 400 gigs so far and counting ! :D
