It doesn't specify, and if it's not it sure is close. 09-04-08A

I should stop trying to find the right one and bust loose on several, should make it easier I suppose.

When a top looks that good, who cares whether it's "select" or not! :D

if you wanted one that looked just like that, we would have to "select it". i've said this before, but we buy one grade, the best of the best. since wood is a natural material is varies from piece to piece. we don't pull out very many to put in the extra special pile, there are so many wonderful pieces. usually the "select" is just that, selected from all we have on hand.

That's an awesome top. If I ordered a 'Select top' and got that, I would be thrilled!!!

There is a lot of hype out there. It's marketing, which is fine. But, be clear, that it IS MARKETING.

I love your approach, Tom. If you bought it, it is select!!

Your approach reminds of my motto......."Go big or stay home"

Newbie alert - Stupid question of the day - :o

I apologize if I insulted anyone with the post, I clearly misunderstood the meaning of Select Tops.

Truth be told, I really haven't seen a bad TAG top, looking forward to landing the right one soon.

Hey, I don't think anyone is picking on you, nor taking any issue with your post, X. It wasn't a dumb question at all. I guess we're really just saying trust your instints, and don't worry too much about what various guitar makers call their tops. If you like it, it's a good one.

mdrs,

No offense taken by be, in fact I have always been treated very well in my short time here.

Looking back, I just felt I asked a dumb question. I appreciate everyones responses.... Including Tom's honesty.

BTW - I do like that one, I liked one very similar to it that another member here bought last year... can't remember who it was.

:D

It's probably easiest if you think of 'select' as not so much a selection of quality, but as a selection of preferred 'type' of flame/quilt.

Quilts and flames come in many types, some slightly angled, others perfectly straight. Some will have extremely interesting grain patterns, others will be geometrically perfect. Some quilts are more subtle, others are extremely pronounced.

So, depending on your preference of what 'type' of flaming or quilting you'd prefer, you could optionally 'select' the pattern from amongst a series of choices. That way you get exactly what you want, rather than just a 'great looking top'. That's not to say that your top will be better or worse in the grand scheme of things, just that it will be exactly what you're expecting when you first open the case and finish wiping your drool off the finely polished lacquer. :)
