some have asked for pics of my new 1/3 lighter old guy with a bad back guitar. here it is. it's a hollow atom with a maple neck, alder body tre, and 2 HC humbuckers. it has proved to be a nice marraige of my hollow t classic and ct.

no maple necks on ct's. that's just not right.

Yes... I agree with that.
But I think an Atom CT with FR would still be really cool! I always wanted a LP with a FR, but dishing out $3500 for the new Gibson Les Paul Axcess Floyd Rose just doesn't make any sense...

Anyway, I shut up now. :(

hey, did i notice the drop-d lever-device?!!

tom
02-27-2009, 07:29 PM
all my guitars get the drop d tuner. i use it for anything in G, D or Em.
it is 24.75" scale. am really enjoying the sounds. it has a wonderful edginess that's not harsh, and seems to be plenty big enough when it needs to be. after playing the ct's for the past year that really surprised me.
at 5.75 lbs, it's very comfy on my back.

Hi Tom,

Very cool guitar.

Can you describe the sounds you're getting? I realize its a hybrid with ideas from many guitars, I'm curious to hear what the end result is sound-wise. Is it more "paul flavored" or "tele flavored" or a brand new flavor with those elements and the "TAG flavor"?

Much love to everyone at the shop,

Joe

tom
02-27-2009, 08:00 PM
i think it's more hollow t classic than paul. i have a short hollow t classic that inspired me to try this. i am way more comfortable on the longer atom body than on a tele shape so this worked out perfect for me. it's certainly not as big and fat as my ct that i have been playing, but it sits really well in the band. it has a lovely bloom with the weaker HC1- and HC1+ pickups. i keep trying to find a better way to describe the top end on these pickups and come up short each time. they have a shzingyness(that's only 3 syllables) that never gets harsh. with either of my amps it's heavenly and i find i'm using less gain pedals because of it.

Anti Atom....is that as in "anti gravity", refering to the light weight of this guitar???

Maybe you should call it "Helium"????? "It's a hollow Helium."

I'm feeling somewhat deflated by this thread. My dream Atom CT I've schemed up is:

Primavera Body - Flame Maple Top - Mary Kay White Translucent Finish
Primavera Neck
Maple Fretboard
3 P90's in creme finish
5-way switch

So Tom, are you saying you can't order an Atom CT like this?

Do you think it would be a good choice for the hollow atom w/maple neck?
What does the hollow body contribute in sound?
Thanks Tom!

I also must have a shirt.

Cool gtr... seems like something I would look at and say... "uh... not me" and then I'd try it and I'd be in trouble...

Now that my main electric is a hard-tail (the Hollow Cobra), maybe I should look into one of those d-tune thing-a-ma-bobs.

I'd give me more "shzingyness" perhaps?

tom
03-01-2009, 12:34 AM
do not mock the shzing! it is the sum of many factors. you will all be jealous of the shzing a seek it for yourselves.
joe, prima would be a nice choice for one. so many things are different about this guitar it's hard to blame or give credit to any one thing. hollow always takes some middle and adds some harmonic stuff on top. usually that's not my cup of tea but these pickups do such a nice job of dealing with top end that it just sounds so pretty yet can drive a gain sound just as well.

Pietro
03-01-2009, 07:09 AM
I mock not!

And I am serious about the t-shirt, I indeed envy and desire this "shzing" for myself, else I would own Fender guitars and not Andersons!

I'll volunteer to get the t-shirts made up if need be. there's a local shop that always does a good job for us. We'll just get an order together and I'll pass along the costs directly, no profit for me, only the worthy task of spreading the "shzing"!

corey, who knew you were a t shirt design guru?!

this was how I made money in college, so I've known for years. And by "money", I mean "nowhere near enough to pay down the thousands upon thousands of dollars in college loans...." (*sigh*).

And as for the tail on the "n" we can add that in illustrator no problem.

RE: CafePress, I like their sales model, but the shirts that I've purchased through them are always really cheap and I'd rather pay a few more bucks for a shirt that I'll actually wear than ANY bucks for a shirt that I won't.

OK,
I called my guy and it looks like it'll be "9 or 10 bucks a shirt" plus a $50 set up charge. That's for an American Apparel shirt, which is top of the line. More expensive, but it's the best shirt you can get, IMO.

I have orders for 28 shirts right now with sizes for many of them. If y'all are still into it, these might get up to $20 per shirt after CA sales tax from the screenprinter, my paypal fees, and shipping to your houses. If y'all are still interested, Lemme know.

HERE'S THE BREAKDOWN:
So 30 shirts @ $10 each is $300, plus $50 set up is $350. CA sales tax is 7.75%, so the shirts can be picked up for $377.13 (unit price would be $12.57)

USPS Priority Mail shipping anywhere in the USA is $4.95. (Total of shirt and shipping would be $17.52).

Paypal charges 3% for any transaction (http://www.rolbe.com/paypal.htm). That means I'd need you to paypal me $18.35 so that all is covered after fees.

The only other question is what color do we want. We can go traditional white with black ink or black with white ink, but I'm a bigger fan of something a little more classy like a charcoal grey with white ink since I only wear black anyway... :) Can we all agree on a shirt color? Tom? Seafoam Green?

One of my retired Navy buddies told me about an incident in which the aircract carrier he was on was returning to San Diego when someone happened to notice that a whale had been "harpooned" on the bulb just below the waterline of the ship's bow...and had remained there.

Realizing that this would not look good (the ship was huge but the whale was as well, and quite visible) they stopped the ship and executed maneuvers to remove the animal.

After this incident the Navy instituted a policy requiring a visual inspection (by helicopter, of course) of large ships before returning to port.

I probably just committed a national secutiy violation of some sort...

What's the latest on the T-Shirts? Is there a person actually handling ordering them or is it just in the possibility stage? I'm just unclear.

I was handling it, but life seems to be stacking up dominoes against me right now. At first, it was the sewer mainline in my house that blew up and I had to have my back patio destroyed and replaced. Then it was a good long stretch of traveling. Last weekend, my family came home from an overnight getaway to find that my back gate was open and my little dog had been attacked by a much bigger dog and there was blood ALL over my 90-ft. driveway and big pack porch (thew measurement is just to illustrate how much blood there was), and then this week I dropped a hard drive that has my entire advertising life on there with 6 months of un-backed-up client files and projects. I mean, that was so catastrophic I was trying not to get choked up yesterday. Apparently, it's going to cost somewhere between $500 and $1500 for a data recovery service to retrieve my data.

This is all on top of the fact that I'd been busier with gigs and advertising than I'd ever been. So, while I wanted to do the shirt thing, right now, it's not even 10th on my list of priorities. I would just email the file over to somebody, but it was on the drive, of course.

If you're the praying type, please add me to your list. Normally I don't get this stressed, but I'm pretty wound up these days.

Very interesting. My first Atom was the Walnut Atom that was a Guitar of the Week guitar. I loved it so much that I wanted another one but with a tremolo. Roy told me that the only tremolo that could be done on the Atom was the Bigsby. I love Bigsby vibratos, but am not a fan of the B5 model. Roy said that the vintage tremolo wouldn't work on the Atom.

I ended up ordering a Hollow Cobra with a vintage trem. I am up to six TAG's now.

Funny how things develop.
