Anybody else have any Anderson guitar horror stories.
Mine:
I sent my Cobra to Anderson for some adjustments, it seemed to be taking a long time. I finally called Roy and asked jokingly, Hey did the guitar catch on fire or something. Instead of the usual laughter, I got a "Well" I knew there was something wrong.
It turned out that the evil empire of UPS must have thrown the box off of their truck because my beloved cobra's neck was split when Anderson got it. Becaues there was no damage to the box, UPS  would not honor the claim. Now I dont know about you guys but this was a heartbreaking incident. I love my Andy's, its a very personal thing. I was very  :(
Enter Tom to the rescue.
Tom took my beloved Cobra under his wing, completely fixed the neck, I was worried... he assured me. When I got it back there was no way you could ever tell this had happened to it. Better than new, and oh, I forgot no charge This is a kind soul, I will never forget it and that my friends, is just one of the many reasons I will always play Anderson guitars. There is simply no other company like it. It may be because they got all the good people under one roof
;)

I remember this one. It actually took us less time to fix the neck than it would have to call UPS and deal with a claim. I also remember laughing to myself after it was finished... I couldn't tell where it had been cracked...and I repaired it!
You're right...Tom's the man.

I tell ya thats the one thing that stops me from sending back a couple on my andersons to get the SS frets installed. I would lose my ming if that happened to one of my guitars.
I was the one, if anyone remembers from reading guitars of the week on the anderson website, I believe 9/15/02 or somewhere around there. You know guitar case that had ups forlikt holes right through it, somehow missing the guitar. I was lucky that time and Im not taking anymore chances with ups.

You guys are starting to worry me. Mine's done (SS frets, powerbridge, as well as a few other things). UPS got it there safely. Now I'm crossing my fingers until it gets back to me-----hopfully towards the end of next week.

Hey Bruce!
Did Roy fire you for putting 10's on my hollow T? LOL :D
You know, your the man too That neck is perfect!!! Your workmanship is excellent!
Hey Vai777, this is more of a fluke than everyday business, although UPS is an evil empire ruled by the dark side, your guitars will more than likely reach their destination in good shape. But the payoff would be huge, ss frets are worth every bit of trouble. The mohagany neck on the cobra is not as hard of wood as maple and they made a slight change to the case to re-enforce the head stock a little better.
The hole in the case was wild. You could always try Fedex.

Here’s a good one; True Story.
My good friend Justin D. (not his real name) was getting ready for an evening church gig. He put his kid in the car seat, yelled at his wife to get in the truck and then proceeded to back out of the drive way.
The truck (a very large king-cab style work truck with a giant Cummins diesel engine) jumped up as he backed out, like it had hit a speed bump. Not knowing what that was he pulled forward to see if it would happen again. And it did.
So he got out, and guess what? He had just run over his new Drop Top Classic in trans plum; not once but TWICE!
The end result was very little damage to the guitar, a lot of damage to the case.
But if you know Justin (or whatever his name is), you know that he was going to sell the guitar soon anyway to pay for the next Anderson he had on order.
Hey Bruce, how about the time I sent in my main gigging guitar to have SS’s, and the neck got crushed!
Thank goodness Tom had another neck just laying around (something that NEVER happens).
Someday I’ll tell you about the guy that could not quit throwing his Anderson down on stage. Someday.

Over the last 7 years I've sent hundreds of guitars back to Anderson and only ONCE did anything bad happen (and bad is questionable). And it was totally repairable and everybody was happy.
Shame on you andersonguy (whom I've never met) for scaring everybody with this subject matter. We're supposed to have nothing but happy thoughts here.

more than likely is just not good enough for me these days, maybee when the frets are totally shot and need a refret, I dont bend much at all so the only advantage the ss frets would have is there life span.
Besides I have a very light touch and my main anderson is going to be four years old in june. there is only minor fret wear after manys years of playing.

Not too long ago I incurred an outstanding gambling debt of $60,000 that was compounding interest at 233% a day. The leg breakers were on the way to bust me up and it looked like there was no way out.
Well, you guessed it. I called Roy at Tom Anderson Guitarworks and he told Tom. The next day my bookie called and said my slate was wiped clean.
I shall never forget that.
Thank you Godfather Anderson, thank you.

Yeah, it's alway with fingers crossed whenever i have to send (or receive) anything fragile when UPS is involved. There's a Vintage Guitar magazine advertiser who has bannered his ads over the years with, "We no longer ship UPS. They have broken our last guitar." What about other delivery services like FedEx or DHL? Are they any better?

sonsop, i am glad my boys sven and ollie, after all this is the norweigen mafia, were able to convince your bookie to alter your responsibility to him.
we really have not had all that much damage with ups. they lost three guitars in the last year though, which is very disturbing. i have heard from others that fed ex is no better.

Questionable. I find the stainless frets have better tone (figure that one out!) and the intonation is quite a bit better, especially with the Feiten system. Comparing with/without, the stainless are FAR worth any upgrade, in my opinion. PLUS the life span, of course! ;)

Great stories! I've heard fedex is worse than UPS-this is according to a packing company here in Hawaii, that sends items both through UPS and Fedex. After reading this story, I'm convinced I will never buy and sell amps outside of Hawaii-I've sold and bought a bunch of amps over the last couple of years without a hitch so far, but I'm sure the odds are starting to work against me. Amps just have too many moving parts for me to worry about. Lastly-great accolades to TAG for fixing up the neck for free. Typical class act on TAG's part.

I should say that even though this happened to me. I still send and receive a lot of stuff UPS. Amps, guitars, etc... I would not get so worried that you may miss opportunities to get equipment you love or the work you may need done on your guitar. Life is full of suprises and usually the ups or fedex truck pulling into my drive is a very good one. (Like in about 2 weeks when I get my new classic) The point of my story was a nod to the company we all share a great deal of respect and love for, Anderson Guitar Works. My only advice on shipping is to pack carefully and insure properly.
